Tony Evers and the Wisconsin \u2063Department of Public\u200b Instruction, accusing Evers of misusing his veto power \u200don <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/members-of-congress-speak-out-on-financial-literacy-education-and-reform\/\" title=\"Members of Congress speak out on financial literacy education and reform\">literacy education<\/a> legislation. Evers\u200c altered a bill in February, allowing DPI to use allocated funds for various \u2063programs, sparking\u2062 the legal dispute. The Wisconsin legislature has taken legal action against Governor Tony \u2064Evers and \u200cthe Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, alleging that Evers misused his veto power\u2062 regarding literacy education legislation. This dispute arose when \u2062Evers \u200dmodified a bill in February, enabling \u2062DPI to utilize designated funds for multiple programs, leading to a legal confrontation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wisconsin<\/a> legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/wheeler-files.s3.amazonaws.com\/upload\/files\/frontpage\/doc_176232301466202138f01c20.13395269.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>filed<\/a> a lawsuit Tuesday against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gov.<\/a> Tony Evers (D-WI) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/wisconsin-legislature-sues-evers-dpi-over-reading-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>alleging<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tony-evers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Evers<\/a> improperly utilized his veto power on legislation concerning literacy education.<\/p>\n<p>The intrastate drama started when Evers used his veto power to change parts of a bill passed in February, including a section that would require DPI to only use allocated funds for specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-a-look-back-on-bernie-sanders-nods-toward-cuban-communism\/\" title=\"WATCH: A Look Back On Bernie Sanders\u2019 Nods Toward Cuban Communism\">literacy programs<\/a>. As part of the veto, Evers altered the language of the bill so that DPI could use the money \u201cfor any \u2018literacy program\u2019 that office deems fit,\u201d as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powells-georgia-emergency-declaratory-judgment-demands-seizure-of-every-voting-machine-in-state\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell's Georgia Emergency Declaratory Judgment Demands Seizure of Every Voting Machine in State\">lawsuit claims<\/a> DPI does not have a titled literacy program.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims that Evers can\u2019t veto the bill because it is not an appropriations bill, but the bill did create the framework for the Joint Committee on Finance to direct $50 million in funds. Appropriations bills, which expend or set aside public funds, can be vetoed.<\/p>\n<p>If the bill had been an appropriations bill, prior to the veto it would have had to pass a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-stonewall-paycheck-fairness-act-over-employer-burdens-redundancy\/\" title=\"Republicans Stonewall \u2018Paycheck Fairness Act\u2019 Over Employer Burdens, Redundancy\">roll call vote<\/a> in the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, according to the Wisconsin legislature, which it did not. Evers should have called for this roll call if he knew it was an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hysteria-begins-as-reality-of-gop-house-majority-sets-in\/\" title=\"Hysteria Begins as Reality of GOP House Majority Sets in\">appropriations vote<\/a>, the lawsuit says, and he did not.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for the Wisconsin legislature are asking for a temporary injunction to halt DPI from spending any funds approved for literacy, though the JCF still seeks to use the funds for the specified literacy programs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the Legislature passes an appropriations bill, the governor can exercise line-item veto authority under the Wisconsin Constitution, and Republicans didn\u2019t seem to have concerns about this concept until Wisconsinites elected and re-elected a Democratic governor,\u201d Evers spokeswoman Britt Cudaback said. \u201cThis is yet another Republican effort to prevent Gov.
