Celina Villanueva criticizes Illinois&#8217; current \u200cgun \u2062legislation as prioritizing gun rights over \u200dthe right to\u2063 live.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 Advocates on both sides of the debate around gun control are using this week to champion their issues at the Illinois Statehouse.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, hundreds of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tighter-background-check-legislation-burdens-law-abiding-citizens-wont-reduce-crime-expert\/\" title=\"Tighter Background Check Legislation Burdens Law-Abiding Citizens, Won\u2019t Reduce Crime: Expert\">gun control advocates<\/a> from Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action and others, including some from Minnesota, discussed their priorities during a rally at the Illinois Statehouse.<\/p>\n<p>One Aim Illinois Deputy Director Yolanda Androzzo pushed for gun control measures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIllinois state legislators have the opportunity, it\u2019s an opportunity to ensure protection through protection and justice for survivors of gun violence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Celina Villanueva, D-Chicago, addressed the crowd. She said she wants to respect those lost to violent crime and blamed Illinois\u2019 \u201cmessed up gun laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Illinois has] messed up gun laws that we haven\u2019t been able to change because those people on the other side think that their right to carry arms is more important that our right to live,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s advocating for a measure requiring police to confiscate firearms from subjects of a restraining order. Right now, the subject can turn over firearms to anyone with a Firearm Owners ID card.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois has among the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/washington-appeals-court-unanimously-strikes-down-local-gun-control-law\/\" title=\"Washington Appeals Court Unanimously Strikes Down Local Gun-Control\u00a0Law\">strict gun laws<\/a> in the country, including the FOID card requirement for gun owners to get from Illinois State Police in order to buy or possess firearms and ammunition, and a ban on more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/latest-gun-ban-lawsuit-seeks-court-to-declare-plaintiff-a-peace-officer\/\" title=\"Latest gun ban lawsuit seeks court to declare plaintiff a peace officer\">170 semi-automatic firearms<\/a> and magazines. Both laws are being challenged in federal court where plaintiffs allege constitutional violations.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois State Rifle Association board member Mandi Ehler said gun control advocates seem to have forgotten what the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is all about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery person that\u2019s in government actually took an oath to uphold our constitution and all of them need to go back and reread it because they are completely misguided as to what can be restricted and what can\u2019t,\u201d Ehler told The Center Square.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Illinois State Rifle Association and other gun rights groups will be in Springfield. Ehler said they expect thousands to arrive and lobby their legislators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest thing that we can do is show up and honestly show our legislators and show our senators that we actually do show up which means we\u2019re also going to show up at the polls.
