Chrissy and Lee Hicks heard of others getting organ transplants at Duke who were unvaccinated, so they were hopeful it wouldn\u2019t be a problem for their daughter.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Yulia Hicks was reportedly denied a kidney transplant as a result of her vaccination status.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-audio-think-tanks-star-lawsuit-witness-admits-to-tommy-robinson-that-they-bribed-him-for-testimony-against-us-congressional-staffer\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE AUDIO: Think Tank\u2019s Star Lawsuit Witness Admits to Tommy Robinson That They Bribed Him For Testimony Against US Congressional Staffer\">recorded phone call<\/a> between the Hicks family and Duke obtained by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, the woman who identified herself as Katherine, the transplant coordinator, said, \u201cIn order to proceed, you would have to follow our recommendations for up-to-date vaccine status because otherwise, it wouldn\u2019t be medically safe for her to be transplanted because she would be more susceptible to diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since the COVID-19 vaccine was being referred to as only a \u201crecommendation,\u201d Lee asked for clarification in the phone call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOK, so to clarify, this is a recommendation versus a requirement?\u201d Lee Hicks said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I can\u2019t require you to do anything. I can recommend these things. But if you don\u2019t follow our recommendations, then Yulia can\u2019t be a transplant candidate here,\u201d the Duke representative said.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> spoke with Chrissy Hicks in detail about what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, we say we fight for Ukraine, all this stuff about Ukraine,\u201d she said. \u201cBut there was a Ukrainian in Duke\u2019s backyard, and they wouldn\u2019t save her.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Chrissy and Lee Hicks adopted Yulia from Ukraine, who needed a kidney transplant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Yulia Hicks\u2019s story went viral, and the Hicks were able to find treatment at ECU Health.\u00a0They had upward of 40 people reach out and offer to be a donor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Hicks are working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/theacru.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"American Constitutional Rights Union \">American Constitutional Rights Union <\/a>to get <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/NC\/text\/H586\/id\/2797669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Yulia's Law\">Yulia\u2019s Law<\/a> passed by the state legislator. The law would prevent discrimination of vaccination status for an organ transplant. So far, Yulia\u2019s Law passed in the North Carolina House but has been stalled in the state Senate.
