In a letter to\u200d White House\u2064 counsel Richard Sauber, Comer asked for cooperation by the following week, hinting at potential actions if unmet. Dick Durbin\">accessing documents related<\/a> to Hunter Biden&#8217;s business dealings and a speech by Joe Biden in Ukraine.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Oversight Committee Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/james-comer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"James Comer\">James Comer<\/a> (R-KY) criticized the White House on Wednesday for refusing to respond to the committee\u2019s requests related to the Republican-led <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-lawmakers-inching-toward-a-bipartisan-impeachment-probe-against-andrew-cuomo\/\" title=\"New York Lawmakers \u2018Inching\u2019 Toward A Bipartisan Impeachment Probe Against Andrew Cuomo\">impeachment inquiry<\/a> into President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Comer reiterated his demands in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/724056878\/Comer-to-Sauber?secret_password=uB0xdE9db64N3Q1DnDgZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>letter<\/a> to White House counsel Richard Sauber, asking that Sauber notify him by next week if the White House does not plan to cooperate \u201cso that the Committee may act accordingly,\u201d Comer wrote. The chairman did not specify what steps he would take next.<\/p>\n<p>Comer had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2943606\/comer-invites-joe-biden-to-testify-on-familys-pay-for-influence-schemes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>asked<\/a> the White House last month to provide a slate of information, such as details about Biden\u2019s interactions with foreign executives with whom the president\u2019s son and brother, Hunter and James, engaged in business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>The Kentucky Republican accused Joe Biden of obstructing congressional oversight efforts and suggested the president was committing \u201cimpeachable offenses\u201d by that act alone. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee has demonstrated Joe Biden has placed his family\u2019s wealth over his country\u2019s interests, and the White House\u2019s continued hostility towards Congress\u2019s prerogative to investigate these matters constitutes obstruction and contempt of Congress\u2014which are themselves impeachable offenses,\u201d Comer wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Comer also said the White House is blocking the National Archives and Records Administration from providing certain substantive documents, including unredacted emails in which Joe Biden used email aliases when he was vice president to communicate with Hunter Biden\u2019s business partners, as well as all drafts of a speech Joe Biden delivered to the Ukrainian Rada in 2015. During that speech, the then-vice president called for the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor whose work included investigating an energy company that Hunter Biden made millions of dollars working for as a board member.<\/p>\n<p>A senior Democratic aide pointed out that NARA has worked in \u201cgood faith\u201d with the committee and tripled its staffing to cooperate with Congress. The agency has provided more than 20,000 documents related to the Biden family, the aide said.<\/p>\n<p>Comer noted in his letter that NARA\u2019s productions have included \u201creams of junk emails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comer\u2019s letter comes after Sauber wrote to him on Monday to assert that the \u201cimpeachment investigation is over.\u201d Sauber cited a fundraising email, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AnnieGrayerCNN\/status\/1772380798227800285\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reported<\/a> by CNN, showing Comer stating that the impeachment inquiry would end with criminal referrals, rather than a vote to impeach the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour Committee\u2019s purported \u2018impeachment inquiry\u2019 has succeeded only in turning up abundant evidence that, in fact, the President has done nothing wrong,\u201d Sauber wrote.<\/p>\n<p>On the whole, House Republicans have shown little interest in holding a vote to impeach Joe Biden. Comer has showcased over the past several months how Hunter and James Biden made millions of dollars working abroad, including with adversarial countries such as China, and at times by wielding Joe Biden\u2019s influence.
