The embassy emphasized that not all ByteDance \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-pardon-jon-woods-a-victim-of-process-crimes-like-michael-flynn\/\" title=\"President Trump, Please Pardon Jon Woods, a Victim of Process Crimes Like Michael Flynn\">board members<\/a> are Chinese nationals\u2064 and warned of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twitter-deletes-president-trumps-tweets-threatens-permanent-suspension\/\" title=\"Twitter deletes President Trump\u2019s tweets, threatens permanent suspension\">adverse effects<\/a>\u200c on American ByteDance investors\u2063 if a TikTok ban\u2063 was\u2063 imposed.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure><figcaption> \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tThe Chinese flag flies behind a surveillance camera (Reuters)\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Chinese Embassy officials met with congressional staffers to lobby against a bill that would force TikTok&#8217;s sale to a non-Chinese company, <em>Politico<\/em> reported Wednesday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Capitol Hill staffers\u2014one working in the House and the other in the Senate\u2014said the Chinese Embassy initiated the meetings with them, where its diplomats downplayed the national security concerns with TikTok and tried to align the Chinese-owned app with American interests, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/17\/china-lobbying-tiktok-congress-00152819\"><span>according<\/span><\/a><span>  to the <\/span><i><span>Politico<\/span><\/i><span>  report. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During the meetings, embassy officials reportedly stressed that not all of TikTok parent company ByteDance&#8217;s board members are Chinese nationals, while warning a TikTok ban would harm American investors with shares in ByteDance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The two congressional staffers added that the meetings took place after the House in March <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/house-passes-bill-cracking-down-on-chinese-owned-tiktok\/\"><span>voted<\/span><\/a><span>  352-65 in favor of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which would ban TikTok in the United States unless its Beijing-based parent company sells it to a non-Chinese entity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>U.S. officials have long been concerned about the popular video-sharing platform\u2019s ties to the Chinese Communist Party, with both President <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-admin-finally-bans-tiktok-on-government-devices\/\"><span>Joe Biden<\/span><\/a><span>  and former president <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2020\/08\/11\/2020-17699\/addressing-the-threat-posed-by-tiktok-and-taking-additional-steps-to-address-the-national-emergency\"><span>Donald Trump<\/span><\/a><span>  expressing national security concerns. In January, lawmakers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/communist-controlled-media-rushes-to-defend-tiktok-ceo-over-ccp-ties\/\"><span>grilled<\/span><\/a><span>  TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew over his and his company\u2019s relationship with the Chinese government. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>TikTok in response to the Wednesday report said the embassy\u2019s alleged meetings with the congressional staffers are &#8220;news to us&#8221; and that &#8220;it\u2019s absurd to ask us to comment on anonymous sources we know nothing about.&#8221;<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Since the bill\u2019s introduction, we\u2019ve been publicly vocal about why we oppose the ban bill,&#8221; TikTok spokesman Alex Haurek said. &#8220;This so-called reporting doesn\u2019t pass the smell test and it\u2019s irresponsible for <\/span><i><span>Politico<\/span><\/i><span>  to print it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Chinese Embassy did not deny that the meetings occurred, with its spokesman Liu Pengyu claiming the embassy &#8220;tries to tell the truth about the TikTok issue to people from all walks of life in the US&#8221; and that &#8220;this is not about lobbying for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-green-commerce-nominee-should-commit-to-keeping-huawai-on-blacklist\/\" title=\"Rep.
