Mayorkas\u2063 faced accusations of violating immigration \u2063laws\u2062 and \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-on-the-ballot-border-takes-center-stage-as-biden-faces-first-primary-test-in-south-carolina\/\" title=\"Border crisis takes spotlight as Biden faces first primary challenge in South Carolina\">breaching public trust<\/a>. \u2062The \u200bHouse transferred the articles to the Senate for a potential conviction.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The Democrat-controlled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/u-s-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a> voted on Wednesday to quash a pair of <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Articles-of-Impeachment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">articles of impeachment<\/a> against Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/alejandro-mayorkas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a>, ending a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-argue-at-impeachment-trial-that-capitol-breach-wasnt-sparked-by-one-speech\/\" title=\"Democrats Argue at Impeachment Trial That Capitol Breach Wasn\u2019t Sparked by \u2018One Speech\u2019\">months-long effort<\/a> by Republicans to hold the Cabinet official accountable for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-shatters-record-with-historic-number-of-illegal-aliens-encountered-in-december\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handling of<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/border-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">border crisis<\/a> before a full trial could be held.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/u-s-house-of-representatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-house-impeachment-managers-file-brief-ahead-of-trial-claim-trump-singularly-responsible-for-capitol-riot\/\" title=\"BREAKING: House Impeachment Managers File Brief Ahead Of Trial, Claim Trump \u2018Singularly Responsible\u2019 For Capitol Riot\">impeachment managers<\/a> tasked with prosecuting the case did not even get a chance to speak when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3Le9FYWgrqg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the proceedings<\/a> wrapped up in one afternoon. Senators were sworn in as jurors, fought over how to conduct the trial for a couple of hours, and ultimately voted 51-48 to nix one article of impeachment and 51-49 to crush the second.<\/p>\n<p>The impeachment charges accused Mayorkas \u201cwillfully and systemically\u201d refusing to comply with federal immigration laws and alleged he \u201cbreached the public trust\u201d with false statements and obstructing lawful oversight of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/p>\n<p>Back in January, Mayorkas <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeKhalilTV\/status\/1752349544925294720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> he was facing \u201cfalse accusations\u201d that \u201cdo not rattle me and do not divert me from the law enforcement and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-panel-advances-mayorkas-articles-of-impeachment\/\" title=\"Mayorkas impeachment articles move forward in House panel\">broader public service mission<\/a> to which I have devoted most of my career and to which I remain devoted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One week after a failed attempt to advance the articles, the GOP-led House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-impeaches-mayorkas-in-second-attempt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved<\/a> the impeachment resolution by a 214-213 vote in mid-February, making Mayorkas the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached since 1876. Three Republican lawmakers broke ranks and joined Democrats in opposing it.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP-led House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-sends-articles-of-impeachment-against-dhs-secretary-alejandro-mayorkas-to-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transferred<\/a> the articles to the Senate on Tuesday. Republicans were hoping for a full trial. A two-thirds vote would have been required for a conviction, which would lead to removal from office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Senate fails to hold a trial, it is an endorsement of [President Joe] Biden\u2019s border catastrophe,\u201d Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-sends-articles-of-impeachment-against-dhs-secretary-alejandro-mayorkas-to-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> in a post to X before the proceedings began on Wednesday. House Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseJudiciary\/status\/1780634428970094674\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> \u201cpolicy disagreements are not a legitimate basis for impeachment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>During the trial, presided over by Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray (D-WA), Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) unveiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1780661212172181610\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plan<\/a> allowing for limited debate followed by motions to dismiss, but that strategy was quickly abandoned when Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1780669344357200338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">objected<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer then moved to effectively dismiss each of the articles on the view that they were unconstitutional because they failed to rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. He\u00a0used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/about\/research-tools\/glossary.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">point of order<\/a>, which the Senate glossary says is a \u201cclaim made by a senator or representative from the floor that a rule of the Chamber is being violated,\u201d that led to a vote to kill each article of impeachment.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans sought to prolong the proceedings after Schumer made each point of order, offering an assortment of motions that included moving to a closed session and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CraigCaplan\/status\/1780686389538893890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adjourning<\/a> the court of impeachment for weeks or months, but each one got voted down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur colleagues know that we are obligated to take these proceedings seriously,\u201d Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1780675855909314915\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> before introducing one of the motions. He added, \u201cThis process must not be abused. It must not be short-circuited. History will not judge this moment well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After both points of order prevailed in rejecting the articles of impeachment, Schumer teed up a vote to dismiss the trial. It succeeded by a 51-49 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/history\/partydiv.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently has<\/a> 49 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and three independents who caucus with the Democrats. Sen.
