But so far, the jury of the former president\u2019s \u201cpeers\u201d seems to have a common attribute \u2014 they largely get their news from the same left-wing media that have spent years disparaging Trump. <\/p>\n<p>Of the 96 possible jurors, more than half were \u201cdismissed immediately Monday after indicating that they could not fairly reach a decision,\u201d The New York Times (NYT) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/16\/nyregion\/trump-hush-money-case-jurors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. Some jurors who made it through to Tuesday later stepped down, with one admitting \u201cI don\u2019t think I can be as impartial and unbiased as I hoped I could be,\u201d according to the Times.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1636643079\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e1716825c01f4e913edb70f25e6a1f6f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e1716825c01f4e913edb70f25e6a1f6f\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meet Jurors 1-7<\/h2>\n<p>Of the currently selected jurors, two are from outside the 50 states, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/7-jurors-trumps-historic-criminal-trial\/story?id=109325932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>. One hails from Ireland, works as a salesman, and is reportedly set to serve as the case\u2019s foreman. The juror told the court he reads MSNBC, The New York Times, the Daily Mail, and Fox News, and reportedly said he has \u201cheard of some\u201d of the other lawfare cases being waged against the former president. <\/p>\n<p>The other foreign-born juror is from Puerto Rico and called Trump \u201cfascinating and mysterious,\u201d according to ABC News. His typical news sources are the Daily News, The New York Times, and Google.<\/p>\n<p>That juror reportedly said he finds it \u201creally interesting\u201d that when Trump \u201cwalks into a room \u2026 he sets people off one way or another. Really, this one guy can do all of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are also two lawyers on the case. One is a corporate lawyer originally from Oregon who reads the NYT, Google News, and the Wall Street Journal. According to ABC News, the juror \u201csuggested that he could infer the former president\u2019s intent without \u2018reading his mind.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3b25618f3764ec08e666aeb42e785b6b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3b25618f3764ec08e666aeb42e785b6b\"><\/div>\n<p>The other lawyer on the jury reads the NYT, New York Post, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. The juror said he doesn\u2019t \u201chave opinions about [Trump] personally.\u201d ABC News reported that \u201che supported some of Trump\u2019s policies as president but disagreed with others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The remaining three jurors are female. One works as an oncology nurse and primarily gets her news from the NYT, CNN, Google, and Facebook. While she reportedly states she doesn\u2019t \u201creally have\u201d an opinion on Trump, she added \u201cNo one is above the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That phrase has been used by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamala-harris-condemns-d-c-demonstrators-despite-past-encouragement-of-violent-blm-mobs\/\" title=\"Kamala Harris condemns D.C. demonstrators despite past encouragement of violent BLM mobs\">left-wing activists<\/a> and politicians to justify the lawfare against Trump, despite the fact that President Joe Biden has escaped prosecution for improper retention of classified documents as well as an apparent foreign corruption scandal.<\/p>\n<p>Another female juror, described by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/16\/nyregion\/trump-hush-money-case-jurors.html\">NYT<\/a> as a \u201cyoung black woman,\u201d is a born-and-raised New Yorker who teaches English Language Arts at a charter school. She primarily uses TikTok and Google to get her news but said she \u201cdoesn\u2019t really care for the news,\u201d according to ABC News.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3e8462706ea9db5e200a807ce7e04d2d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3e8462706ea9db5e200a807ce7e04d2d\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump speaks his mind,\u201d the juror reportedly said. \u201cAnd I\u2019d rather that than someone who\u2019s in office who you don\u2019t know what they\u2019re thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The third female juror is a software engineer for the Walt Disney Company and goes to TikTok and the NYT for news. She assured the court she would \u201cbe fair and impartial.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jurors\u2019 \u2018News\u2019 Sources Have a History of Leftist Activism<\/h2>\n<p>The majority of the media sources the aforementioned jurors use to obtain the news are corporate media outlets or Big Tech platforms with known biases against Trump and other non-leftists. <\/p>\n<p>At least six of the jurors said they turn to the NYT for news. That paper <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/23\/new-fbi-notes-re-debunk-major-nyt-story-highlight-media-collusion-to-produce-russia-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helped spread<\/a> the Russia-collusion hoax, with three of its reporters winning a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/winners\/staffs-new-york-times-and-washington-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pulitzer Prize<\/a> for their \u201creporting\u201d which FBI official Peter Strzok, who ran the investigation into the alleged collusion, privately acknowledged was filled with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/judiciary-committee-releases-declassified-documents-that-substantially-undercut-steele-dossier-page-fisa-warrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misleading and inaccurate<\/a>\u201d information, as pointed out by The Federalist\u2019s Mollie Hemingway. <\/p>\n<p>After The New York Times published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/14\/us\/politics\/russia-intelligence-communications-trump.html\">story<\/a> in 2017 titled \u201cTrump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence,\u201d Strzok wrote in private notes that officials \u201chave not seen evidence of any individuals affiliated with the Trump team in contact with [Russian Intelligence Officials]. \u2026 We are unaware of ANY Trump advisors engaging in conversations with Russian intelligence officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times based its story on anonymous intelligence officials. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWidely accepted by the media and political establishment,\u201d the Times story did \u201cmuch to cement the false and damaging Russia conspiracy theory,\u201d Hemingway wrote. <\/p>\n<p>By 2020, the Times\u2019 editorial board had flat-out published an editorial titled \u201cEnd Our National Crisis: The Case Against Donald Trump.\u201d Its lede <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/16\/opinion\/donald-trump-worst-president.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asserted<\/a> that \u201cTrump\u2019s re-election campaign poses the greatest threat to American democracy since World War II.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/20\/heres-how-the-media-are-lying-right-now-nyt-editor-blames-swing-voters-who-dont-know-or-remember-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Here\u2019s How The Media Are Lying Right Now: NYT Editor Blames Swing Voters Who \u2018Don\u2019t Know Or Remember\u2019 Trump<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several jurors cited the Chinese-owned app TikTok as one of their sources for news, comporting with a general trend showing 4 in 10 TikTok users say they use the app as a regular news source, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/04\/03\/6-facts-about-americans-and-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research<\/a>. These consumers are \u201cespecially likely\u201d to be Democrats, under 50 years old, and\/or women, Pew noted.<\/p>\n<p>As national security concerns boost an effort to ban the spyware, Democrats have fretted about losing the platform. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-ban-tiktok-would-rob-biden-democrats-2024-election-tool-2024-03-14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a> noted that a \u201cUS ban of TikTok would rob Biden, Democrats of 2024 election tool,\u201d noting Biden\u2019s campaign uses TikTok to make videos like one \u201cskewering\u201d Trump \u201cabout cutting Social Security spending.\u201d Politico published a similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/03\/14\/tiktok-ban-biden-young-voters-00147014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> about young Democrats\u2019 affinity for keeping TikTok around. <\/p>\n<p>Several jurors also cited Google as a source of their news. Google has been known to amplify left-wing media while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sen-cruz-slams-google-and-146s-political-bias-stop-targeting-and-censoring-conservatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suppressing<\/a> conservative perspectives and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/22\/look-how-google-shoos-you-away-from-the-biden-family-biz-and-other-big-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shooing<\/a> readers away from stories like the Biden family corruption scandal. The platform \u201cinterfered\u201d in elections at least 41 times over 16 years, a study from the Media Research Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/google-interfered-elections-41-times-last-16-years-media-research-center-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>. \u201cIn every case, Google harmed the candidates \u2013 regardless of party \u2013 who threatened its left-wing candidate of choice,\u201d the MRC concluded.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jury Selection<\/h2>\n<p>Before questioning the prospective jurors, the prosecution and defense were given their identities so they could search the jurors\u2019 social media activity, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/16\/politics\/takeaways-trump-hush-money-trial-day-2\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Each side is allowed to preemptively strike 10 jurors for any reason, and may also ask the judge to strike jurors who show bias. If the judge finds cause, the struck juror is not included in the 10 preemptive strikes. One of Trump\u2019s lawyers, Todd Blanche, asked the judge to remove potential jurors who claimed not to have opinions about Trump but whose social media posts, Blanche argued, indicated otherwise. Judge Juan Merchan removed two \u2014 including a man who \u201chad posted \u2018lock him up\u2019 on Facebook\u201d \u2014 but refused to strike three others, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche objected to one potential juror \u2014 a woman who had posted a video she took of a crowd of people celebrating after Biden\u2019s 2020 victory \u2014 but Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/16\/us-news\/judge-accuses-trump-of-trying-to-intimidate-juror-called-to-clarify-posts-allegedly-showing-bias-toward-ex-prez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused<\/a> to strike her and chastised Trump instead.<\/p>\n<p>One potential juror who was later excused because of a job conflict told reporters outside the courthouse that she believed in the importance of giving Trump a fair trial but then launched into a list of reasons why she disliked Trump and did not \u201capprove of what he did as president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The jury isn\u2019t the only player in the courtroom the Trump team has to worry about being influenced by bias. Judge Juan Merchan\u2019s daughter Loren was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/08\/judge-who-gagged-trump-to-hide-rabid-pro-democrat-bias-must-recuse-immediately\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">identified<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook\/2022\/06\/05\/democracy-week-in-washington-00037266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politico<\/a> in 2022 as president of Authentic Campaigns, a Democrat marketing firm that includes clients like Vice President Kamala Harris, and California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff. Merchan himself <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/07\/trump-case-judge-juan-merchan-donated-to-biden-campaign-in-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donated<\/a> to President Joe Biden\u2019s campaign in 2020 and to an anti-Trump group called \u201cStop Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Is Trump in Court Anyway?<\/h2>\n<p>In one of Democrats\u2019 several acts of lawfare against the former president, Manhattan D.A. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/16\/trump-will-be-in-court-instead-of-campaigning-for-8-weeks-thanks-to-democrats-new-york-lawfare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> indicted <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/26\/trumps-reduced-bond-doesnt-make-letitia-james-election-meddling-lawfare-any-less-scandalous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump<\/a> on 34 counts related to allegations he had his then-lawyer Michael Cohen pay pornographer Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair. Bragg claims Trump broke the law by having his company classify the alleged payments to Daniels as \u201clegal fees\u201d instead of campaign expenditures. While \u201cmisreporting business expenses is normally, at most, a misdemeanor,\u201d as former FEC Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/15\/trumps-strongest-new-york-defense-has-nothing-to-do-with-alvin-bragg-or-judge-merchan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brad Smith<\/a> explained in these pages, Bragg is trying to turn it into a felony charge by arguing the misreporting was \u201cdone to cover up a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bragg alleges Trump\u2019s failure to report the payout as a campaign expenditure \u201cprevented the public from knowing information that might have influenced their votes.\u201d But as The Federalist\u2019s Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/05\/alvin-braggs-trump-indictment-is-even-more-pathetic-and-partisan-than-we-could-have-imagined\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has noted<\/a>, \u201cthere is nothing unlawful about purchasing negative information to suppress its publication.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-42f1ac02eb5f30a7f39d77adde979c9e fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-42f1ac02eb5f30a7f39d77adde979c9e\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Donald Trump&#8217;s New York jury selection is ongoing as 7 out of 12 seats were filled by Tuesday from a pool of 96 potential jurors.
