Maher&#8217;s controversial actions include aligning with censorship strategies tied to political conversations. Maher&#8217;s involvement has sparked debates on information dissemination and censorship practices across various platforms.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Katherine Maher, the new CEO of National Public Radio (NPR), previously bragged about pushing censorship on behalf of government officials. <\/p>\n<p>In a clip posted to X by journalist Christopher Rufo, Maher, who previously served as CEO of Wikipedia, said she \u201ctook a very active approach to disinformation,\u201d based on \u201cconversations with government\u201d through 2020. Maher also said that approach was established as \u201ca model for future elections outside the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Maher says that, as CEO of Wikipedia, she &#8220;took a very active approach to disinformation,&#8221; coordinated censorship &#8220;through conversations with government,&#8221; and suppressed content related to the pandemic and the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>NPR&#8217;s new censor-in-chief. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BoKZlrJuLE\">pic.twitter.com\/BoKZlrJuLE<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Christopher F. Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1780566890437316738?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 17, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Maher joined NPR as CEO of the far-left, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-bidens-wild-life-and-dodgy-business-dealings-exposed-in-upcoming-film-producers-say\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden\u2019s \u2018Wild Life And Dodgy Business Dealings\u2019 Exposed In Upcoming Film, Producers Say\">taxpayer-funded outlet<\/a> last month. Prior to taking the helm of the state media outlet, Maher served as CEO of Wikimedia Foundation from March 2016 to April 2021, according to her LinkedIn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/krmaher\/details\/experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">page<\/a>. The Wikimedia Foundation runs Wikipedia, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_most-visited_websites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seventh-most <\/a>visited website in the world. It was under Maher\u2019s tenure that Wikipedia tried to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/09\/26\/wikipedia-is-now-trying-to-eliminate-the-federalists-online-entry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eliminate <\/a>The Federalist\u2019s online entry. <\/p>\n<p>In February 2021, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/15\/wikipedias-quiet-big-tech-funded-grip-on-internet-knowledge-gives-it-too-much-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">condemned<\/a> the online encyclopedia\u2019s leftward shift: \u201cWikipedia\u2019s ideological and religious bias is real and troubling, particularly in a resource that continues to be treated by many as an unbiased reference work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/15\/free-speech-depends-on-scotus-rejecting-the-governments-censorship-excuses-in-murthy-v-missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Murthy v. Missouri<\/a><\/em>  (formerly <em>Missouri v. Biden<\/em>) earlier this year on whether the federal government could pressure private tech companies to silence dissidents online. The sweeping lawsuit uncovered systemic federal government pressure on online information brokers to shut up anyone who criticized the federal government, disagreed with officials, or pointed out government errors.<\/p>\n<p>Footage from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=r2gsj0EEE3I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TED Talk<\/a> last year shows Maher explaining she believes in no such thing as objective truth. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur reverence for the truth might be a distraction that\u2019s getting in the way of finding common ground and getting things done,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>In 2020, Maher also wrote to justify looting amid the nationwide <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/02\/26\/estimates-george-floyd-riots-to-cost-66-times-more-than-capitol-damage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">riots <\/a>erupting in the aftermath of George Floyd\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I mean, sure, looting is counterproductive. But it\u2019s hard to be mad about protests not prioritizing the private property of a system of oppression founded on treating people\u2019s ancestors as private property.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Katherine Maher (@krmaher) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/krmaher\/status\/1266974026053767169?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>One of Maher\u2019s earliest moves as chief of NPR was to discredit a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/10\/employee-npr-tracks-race-sex-of-sources-and-lets-trans-activists-police-its-language\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whistleblower <\/a>from among the network\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prominent-professor-takes-down-virtue-signaling-seth-rogen-gets-canceled-hard\/\" title=\"Prominent Professor Takes Down \u2018Virtue Signaling\u2019 Seth Rogen, Gets Canceled Hard\">senior editors<\/a>. Former NPR Senior Business Editor Uri Berliner resigned from NPR today after he published an expos\u00e9 of his company\u2019s propaganda culture last week in The Free Press. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn open-minded spirit no longer exists within NPR, and now, predictably, we don\u2019t have an audience that reflects America,\u201d wrote Berliner in his Free Press article last week. \u201cThat wouldn\u2019t be a problem for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/employee-npr-tracks-race-sex-of-sources-and-lets-trans-activists-police-its-language\/\" title=\"Employee: NPR monitors the race and gender of sources, allowing transgender activists to oversee its language\">openly polemical news outlet serving<\/a> a niche audience. But for NPR, which purports to consider all things, it\u2019s devastating both for its journalism and its business model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Maher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/npr-extra\/2024\/04\/12\/1244456600\/from-npr-president-and-ceo-katherine-maher-thoughts-on-our-mission-and-our-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in a public message to employees that Berliner\u2019s op-ed was \u201cprofoundly disrespectful, hurtful, and demeaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize that this work is a public trust, one established by Congress more than 50 years ago with the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-chinese-security-thug-drags-dutch-reporter-away-during-live-shot-at-genocide-games\/\" title=\"WATCH: Chinese Security Thug Drags Dutch Reporter Away During Live Shot at Genocide Games\">public broadcasting system<\/a>,\u201d Maher said. \u201cIn order to hold that trust, we owe it our continued, rigorous accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berliner noted in his report last week that NPR editors dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story revealing corruption related to his vice president father as a \u201cwaste\u201d of \u201ctime on stories that are not really stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berliner, a 25-year veteran of the outlet, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/04\/16\/1244962042\/npr-editor-uri-berliner-suspended-essay\">suspended <\/a>from NPR Tuesday. He resigned Wednesday as dozens of colleagues signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BenMullin\/status\/1780635242170028359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter <\/a>to demand a tougher rebuke of him from the CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my Free Press essay,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
