Hunt has sat on the board since 2019. Traditionally, the university\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-taps-longtime-dei-advocate-to-help-pick-universitys-next-president\/\" title=\"Harvard enlists seasoned DEI advocate to assist in selecting the university's next president\">presidential search committees<\/a> are composed of the 12 members of the Harvard Corporation and the president of the Board of Overseers. The board can veto any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senators-look-towards-bipartisan-capitol-security-funding-deal\/\" title=\"Senators look towards bipartisan Capitol security funding deal\">committee pick<\/a> with a majority vote. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTyler Jacks and I hope to work closely with Interim President Garber and all of our stakeholders to support excellence, inclusion, and world-class leadership in all that we do,\u201d Hunt said in a statement, referencing the board\u2019s vice chair, Tyler Jacks, who served on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/education-insanity-top-10-stories-of-the-week-vol-19\/\" title=\"Education Insanity: Top 10 Stories Of The Week (Vol. 19)\">presidential search committee<\/a> that appointed its former president, Claudine Gay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gay resigned as president of the university in January after her prior academic work was found tainted with plagiarism. Gay said that the public ire that contributed to her downfall was fueled by \u201cracial animus.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunt is a leading DEI advocate and critic of \u201cmeritocracy.\u201d In 2015 while working at the consulting giant McKinsey, Hunt co-authored a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/capabilities\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/why-diversity-matters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">paper<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  titled \u201cWhy diversity matters,\u201d which argued that companies with more diverse leadership were more likely to perform better, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/harvard-taps-longtime-dei-advocate-to-help-pick-universitys-next-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The paper\u2019s findings have been challenged. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/econjwatch.org\/File+download\/1296\/GreenHandMar2024.pdf?mimetype=pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  published in Econ Journal Watch in March took issue with Hunt\u2019s central findings and said that the 2015 paper was impossible to replicate, a serious problem for any academic study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunt has argued in favor of DEI in other settings. None of the campaigns were successful, even that of former Facebook executive Sam Lessin, who secured the most nominations for any write-in campaign in Harvard history, 2,901.
