Trump suggested the allotted number was insufficient due to \u200cthe Democratic-leaning demographics in Manhattan,\u200c where the jurors are\u200c drawn from. Donald Trump criticized the jury \u2062selection process in\u200b his New York hush money trial, \u200cseeking \u2062increased flexibility\u2063 in dismissing potential jurors. He disputed the\u2063 limitation of 10 strikes, specifically referring to peremptory challenges. Trump argued that the restricted number was inadequate, considering the Democrat-heavy composition of potential jurors from \u2063Manhattan.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> took to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"social media\">social media<\/a> on Wednesday to criticize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-derek-chauvin-agreed-to-plea-bargain-but-trump-ag-william-barr-rejected-deal\/\" title=\"Report: Derek Chauvin Agreed To Plea Bargain But Trump AG William Barr Rejected Deal\">jury selection<\/a> process in his hush money trial in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"New York\">New York<\/a>, saying his defense attorneys should be allowed to dismiss as many prospective jurors as they see fit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought STRIKES were supposed to be \u2018unlimited\u2019 when we were picking our jury?\u201d Trump asked in a Truth Social post, adding that he was later told he \u201conly had 10\u201d strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was referencing a tool known as a \u201cperemptory challenge,\u201d which attorneys can use during jury selection to dismiss, or strike, a prospective juror without having to state a reason.<\/p>\n<p>New York law allots parties in low-level felony cases 10 peremptory challenges each, which Trump indicated were too few because jurors are drawn from a pool in the Manhattan area, in which a majority of residents are registered Democrats and voted against Trump in the last two presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was then told we only had 10, not nearly enough when we were purposely given the 2nd Worst Venue in the Country. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!\u201d Trump wrote, making an apparent reference to his separate criminal case in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Washington, D.C.\">Washington, D.C.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s remarks come as he has, according to reports from the courtroom, four peremptory challenges left to use with nearly half of the 12-seat jury bench, plus alternates, still left to select. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat, reportedly has four challenges left.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s attorneys also have an unlimited opportunity to raise challenges that specify reasons, such as when defense attorney Todd Blanche <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2968812\/trump-trial-attorneys-struggle-jurors-without-opinions-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>asked<\/a> Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday to dismiss a juror who had written on social media years ago that he opposed Trump\u2019s executive travel ban and that the courts should \u201clock him up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merchan granted the request.
