Ben Cardin (D-MD) retiring from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a>, both Democratic and Republican candidates are spending millions of dollars just a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-says-us-will-have-enough-vaccine-for-300-million-people-by-end-of-july\/\" title=\"Biden Says US Will Have Enough Vaccine for 300 Million People by End of July\">month ahead<\/a> from the state\u2019s primary. <\/p>\n<p>The top contender for the Republican nomination is former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who announced his bid for candidacy just two months ago. Based upon a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/tablet\/2024\/03\/20\/march-5-12-2024-washington-post-university-maryland-poll-maryland-voters\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Washington Post<\/em>-University of Maryland poll<\/a> from last month, Hogan is leading potential Democratic opponents Prince George\u2019s County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks (D) or Rep. David Trone (D-MD) by double digits. However, 55% of people polled preferred to have a Democrat in the Senate; whereas 35% wanted a Republican.<\/p>\n<p>In the past two months, Hogan has raised more than $1.9 million, with an additional $1.2 million collected by two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-lefts-top-censor-reportedly-funneling-research-to-the-nonpartisan-j6-committee\/\" title=\"The \u201cLeft\u2019s Top Censor\u201d Reportedly Funneling Research to the \u201cNonpartisan\u201d J6 Committee\">political action committees tied<\/a> to his campaign. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team is incredibly humbled and grateful for the overwhelming amount of support and positive reception we have received across the state since announcing mid-February, and we are just getting started,\u201d Hogan said in a statement. \u201cIn a race where we are likely to face either the billionaire trying to buy the election or the candidate of the Democratic machine, there is no doubt we are the financial underdog too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hogan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fundraising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>fundraising<\/a> efforts pale in comparison to Trone, who has brought in $640,168 from individual contributions and since the start of his bid had loaned his campaign $41.7 million, according to federal campaign finance records. Her campaign currently has just under $3.2 million on hand.
