The law, named \u2062the \u201cSave Adolescents from \u200dExperimentation Act,\u201d was\u2064 halted\u2063 by\u200b Franklin County Judge \u2063Michael J. Holbrook due \u200bto concerns about its constitutionality.\u200c The law also addressed transgender \u200bparticipation in sports, prompting legal challenges and political debate in Ohio.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A county judge in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/ohio\">Ohio<\/a> placed a temporary block on the state\u2019s law shielding individuals under 18 years old from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/here-are-the-left-wing-legal-groups-backing-trans-procedures-on-kids\/\" title=\"Left-wing legal groups support transgender procedures for children.\">life-altering transgender procedures<\/a> for two weeks or until consideration of a broader injunction against the law. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The law, called the \u201cSave Adolescents from Experimentation Act,\u201d bans so-called \u201cgender-affirming\u201d surgeries, such as double mastectomies on girls who identify as boys, in addition to prohibiting giving minors cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers. The law does not prevent minors who were already placed on puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones before the legislation passed from staying on them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Franklin County Judge Michael J. Holbrook put a hold on the law <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.10tv.com\/article\/news\/politics\/ohio-law-transgender-care-ban-blocked-by-judge\/530-598b7f3b-477d-49a9-9ad7-336f2b8897d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">saying<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  that it may have been unlawful because the Ohio Constitution says that bills should have no \u201cmore than one subject.\u201d The \u201cSafe Act\u201d included both a ban on transgender procedures and stipulated that males could not compete on female sports teams at grades K-12 and the collegiate level. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The law, slated to go into effect on April 24, will be placed on hold for two weeks unless a hearing for a preliminary injunction against it takes place before that time. The ACLU challenged the law, claiming it was discriminatory. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, a Republican, said he expected the law to be upheld eventually. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is just the first page of the book,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov\/Media\/News-Releases\/April-2024\/Statement-from-AG-Yost-on-House-Bill-68-Ruling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe will fight vigorously to defend this properly enacted statute, which protects our children from irrevocable adult decisions. I am confident that this law will be upheld.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The law was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ohio-republicans-ban-trans-procedures-on-minors-boys-in-girls-sports-in-vote-overriding-gop-governor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> by Republican lawmakers in January over the veto of GOP Governor Mike DeWine. It was sponsored by state Rep. Gary Click (R), who said Tuesday that the law would be upheld after litigation was resolved. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe have lower court disappointments but higher court victories,\u201d he said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10tv.com\/article\/news\/politics\/ohio-law-transgender-care-ban-blocked-by-judge\/530-598b7f3b-477d-49a9-9ad7-336f2b8897d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to 10WBNS. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Click added that \u201cthere\u2019s no constitutional right to injure children, there\u2019s no constitutional right to chemically castrate children\u2026 there is no constitutional right to this, this is malpractice and we\u2019re gonna win in the end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712932862202000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DeWine said he expected the court battle to go to the state Supreme Court. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEverybody knew that this would go to court eventually,\u201d DeWine said. \u201cWhatever the decision the local judge makes, it will go up to the court of appeals and I\u2019m sure it will go from there to the Ohio Supreme Court.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">More than 20 states have passed similar laws to Ohio\u2019s, with most surviving court challenges so far.
