Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and former television news anchor Republican Kari Lake is now labeled \u201clean Democratic\u201d when it was previously a \u201ctoss-up,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/centerforpolitics.org\/crystalball\/rating-changes-arizona-senate-and-az-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> the University of Virginia\u2019s Center for Politics ranking. They are looking to replace Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), who won her seat in 2018 as a Democrat and is not seeking reelection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Arizona\u2019s open-seat Senate race, we now see the Democrats as a narrow favorite, so we\u2019re pushing that race from Toss-up to Leans Democratic,\u201d Managing Editor of Sabato\u2019s Crystal Ball Kyle Kondik wrote. \u201cAnd we also view the swing district AZ-6, held by first-term Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R), as a truly 50-50 proposition, so we\u2019re moving it from Leans Republican to Toss-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the first quarter of 2024, Gallego brought in $7.5 million, outraising Lake\u2019s $3.6 million she acquired during the same time. She <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/trump-backed-senate-candidate-kari-lake-raises-1m\/story?id=108768584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>raised<\/a> $1 million from a Mar-a-lago fundraiser earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Lake ran for governor of Arizona in 2022, when she lost to Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ). Lake has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/04\/13\/kari-lake-arizona-senate-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>softened<\/a> her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcenany-rips-tapper-after-he-implies-shes-appealing-to-conspiracists\/\" title=\"McEnany Rips Tapper After He Implies She\u2019s Appealing To Conspiracists\">abortion stance<\/a> in the wake of the Arizona Supreme Court\u2019s decision. She was previously stridently opposed to the procedure. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy personal belief is that all life matters. All life counts, and all life is precious, and I don\u2019t believe in abortion,\u201d Lake said during the gubernatorial debate in 2022. \u201cI think the older law is going to take and is going to go into effect. That\u2019s what I believe will happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, she is critical of the court\u2019s ruling saying it was \u201cout of step with Arizonans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t let Kari Lake distort the record,\u201d Gallego <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4594671-gallego-lake-abortion-arizona-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a>, calling the court\u2019s decision \u201cdevastating.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Arizona Democrats are looking to run on abortion with a ballot measure that would enshrine the right to an abortion into the state\u2019s constitution. David Schweikert (R-AZ) has represented the Phoenix area for a decade in the House. His district is also labeled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/ratings\/house-race-ratings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>toss-up<\/a>, according to the nonpartisan <em>Cook Political Report<\/em>. He represents Arizona\u2019s newly redrawn 1st District, which has voted <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/David_Schweikert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>increasingly blue<\/a> over the years. In 2022, Schweikert narrowly maintained his <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Arizona%27s_1st_Congressional_District\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>seat<\/a> by about 3,000 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2941506\/democrats-capitalize-skeptical-supreme-court-target-vulnerable-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>nationwide<\/a> are targeting districts like Ciscomani and Schweikert\u2019s in the 2024 general election. According to the Center for Politics, Arizona is still a toss-up for the presidential election.
