I Am\">meant missing<\/a> a Supreme Court hearing on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-accuses-jack-smith-of-violating-court-order-wants-prosecutor-held-in-contempt\/\" title=\"Trump claims Jack Smith violated court order, demands prosecutor be held in contempt\">presidential immunity issue<\/a> and his son Barron\u2019s high school graduation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was looking forward to that graduation with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge does not allow me to escape this scam,\u201d Trump told reporters at the New York Supreme Court following the trial\u2019s first day.<\/p>\n<p>The former president\u2019s defense team had asked that the trial break for the day on May 17 so that Trump could attend Barron\u2019s graduation ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, with his family.<\/p>\n<p>Merchan did not immediately deny the request, saying instead that it would depend on how the trial was progressing at the time. \u201cIt really depends on if we are on time and where we are in the trial,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712932862202000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0plT8RRdMy9XUpIhocnjQS\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Merchan made it clear that he expected Trump to be present throughout the trial \u2014 which may last as long as eight weeks and is scheduled every weekday except Wednesdays \u2014 even if that meant missing oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on the issue of presidential immunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArguing before the Supreme Court is a big deal, and I can certainly appreciate why your client would want to be there, but a trial in New York Supreme Court \u2026 is also a big deal,\u201d Merchan said to Trump attorney Todd Blanche. \u201cI will see him here next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump lashed out at Merchan again after that exchange, telling reporters, \u201cHe won\u2019t allow me to leave here for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gwyneth-paltrows-ski-crash-trial-will-become-discovery-documentary\/\" title=\"Gwyneth Paltrow's ski crash trial to be a Discovery+ documentary.\">half-a-day<\/a> to go to D.C. and go before the United States Supreme Court, because he thinks he\u2019s superior, I guess, than the Supreme Court \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merchan has not ruled on Trump\u2019s request to attend Barron\u2019s graduation, but the former president took to Truth Social to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/trump-falsely-tells-supporters-judge-133324416.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tell followers<\/a> that he would \u201clikely\u201d be barred from missing court to attend the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Donald Trump expressed frustration on Monday as Justice Juan Merchan required his presence throughout his Manhattan hush-money trial, potentially causing him to miss a Supreme Court hearing on presidential immunity and his son Barron\u2019s graduation.
