Prosecutors\u2063 accused Trump of knowingly disregarding the order by posting on social media about witnesses in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-drops-appeal-to-move-manhattan-hush-money-case-to-federal-court\/\" title=\"Trump drops appeal to move Manhattan hush money case to federal court\">hush\u200d money case<\/a>. They argued for a\u2064 $1,000 fine per post\u2064 and potential jail\u2064 time\u2062 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/timeline-big-techs-not-so-brief-history-of-censoring-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Timeline: Big Tech\u2019s Not-So-Brief History Of Censoring Donald Trump\">future violations<\/a>, emphasizing \u2064that Trump must respect judicial orders.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg asked a judge to hold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> in criminal contempt and fine the former president $3,000 for allegedly violating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2966524\/trump-trial-judge-sets-april-23-hearing-trump-alleged-gag-order-violation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">gag order<\/a>, according to a court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/723630197\/Bragg-Contempt?secret_password=NSC4xCae44Cse6c464xA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>filing<\/a> made public Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said Trump \u201cwillfully\u201d violated the order, issued on April 1, by posting three separate times on social media about known witnesses and a prosecutor in Trump\u2019s hush money case in New York.<\/p>\n<p>They argued Trump should be held in criminal contempt, and that contempt sanctions should include a fine of $1,000 per post and a warning that any future gag order violation would result in a penalty of up to one month in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefendant is not above the law, and he cannot simply disregard judicial orders that upset him,\u201d prosecutors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Juan Merchan had restricted Trump from speaking about witnesses in the case, prosecutors and their family, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nations-largest-trial-court-system-tells-staffers-to-get-vaccinated-or-face-termination\/\" title=\"Nation\u2019s Largest Trial Court System Tells Staffers To Get Vaccinated Or Face Termination\">court staff<\/a> and their family. While Trump is still permitted to speak about Merchan, the judge also built into the order the stipulation that Trump could not speak about Merchan\u2019s family after Trump raged in a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media posts<\/a> about the judge\u2019s daughter. Loren Merchan is an executive at a top Democratic marketing firm, and Trump claimed her lucrative work with Trump\u2019s top political rivals presented a conflict of interest for the judge.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors cited in their contempt motion two remarks Trump made on Truth Social about Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels, both of whom Bragg, an elected Democrat, has indicated he plans to use as witnesses during Trump\u2019s trial.<\/p>\n<p>In the first post, the former president praised a comment by Daniels\u2019s former attorney Michael Avenatti.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is outrageous that Cohen and Daniels can do countless TV interviews, post on social, &#038; make $$ on bogus documentaries \u2014 all by talking shit about Trump \u2014 but he\u2019s gagged and threatened with jail if he responds,\u201d Avenatti wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Trump shared the remark and thanked Avenatti for \u201crevealing the truth about two sleaze bags.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the second post, Trump shared a statement Daniels made in 2018 in which she denied having an affair with Trump. Prosecutors said the statement was \u201cdirectly at issue in this criminal trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the third post, made again on Truth Social, Trump referenced Bragg\u2019s former special prosecutor Mark Pomerantz and sharply criticized Cohen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHas Mark POMERANTZ been prosecuted for his terrible acts in and out of the D.A.\u2019s Office. His Case Was Thrown Out.\">disgraced attorney<\/a> and felon Michael Cohen been prosecuted for LYING?\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cOnly TRUMP people get prosecuted by this Judge and these thugs!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz resigned from the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office in 2022 in protest of Bragg\u2019s decision at the time not to indict Trump; Bragg\u2019s predecessor had begun investigating the hush money case years earlier.
