If Trump says Democrats are weaponizing the justice system, they bring novel lawsuits designed to bankrupt him. And if Trump says there are people in government working against the American people, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/19\/opinion\/trump-deep-state.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brags<\/a> that \u201cthe \u2018deep state\u2019 is actually kind of awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1421609403\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4db96f631e60ba70d24ce46750b46e1a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4db96f631e60ba70d24ce46750b46e1a\"><\/div>\n<p>It comes as no surprise that America\u2019s self-proclaimed \u201cnewspaper of record\u201d is leading the charge to defend the \u201cdeep state.\u201d After all, this is the paper that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/09\/05\/opinion\/trump-white-house-anonymous-resistance.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a> an anonymous op-ed in 2018 \u2014 two months before the midterm elections \u2014 from \u201ca senior [Trump] official\u201d claiming to be \u201cquiet resistance within the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That, my friends, is the very definition of the \u201cdeep state\u201d: a government employee going beyond the bounds of his job description and the Constitution to undermine a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/niger-heads-to-polls-in-search-of-first-democratic-transition\/\" title=\"Niger heads to polls in search of first democratic transition\">democratically elected president<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are hundreds of thousands of men and women in government who do good work, day in and day out. They do their jobs as defined by law and carry out the policies set by the president. But there are others who act as self-appointed \u201cprotectors\u201d of institutions against politicians they don\u2019t like. What they and The New York Times ignore is that our system of government vests power in those politicians because they were elected by Americans. When bureaucrats subvert democratically elected officials, they\u2019re really subverting the people who voted those officials into office \u2014 people like you.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weaponizing the Government Against the People<\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, I also see this in my work on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The vast majority of the men and women in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/huge-attorney-sidney-powell-confirms-alleged-dominion-servers-in-germany-were-confiscated-video\/\" title=\"HUGE! Attorney Sidney Powell CONFIRMS Alleged Dominion Servers in Germany Were Confiscated -- VIDEO\">intelligence community<\/a> are focused on protecting Americans from foreign threats, but there are some who care more about politics than public service, recoil at the thought of congressional oversight, and think the American people can\u2019t be trusted on matters of national security. This is a particularly dangerous form of delusion because it\u2019s not just a dereliction of duty, but leads to secrecy and intrigue that undermine the important work of the intelligence community and public trust in vital institutions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aba8d374c6f7c6753e7019bb681de6d9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aba8d374c6f7c6753e7019bb681de6d9\"><\/div>\n<p>We see this across the government. President Joe Biden\u2019s Department of Veteran Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/rubio-blasts-biden-admin-for-disregarding-his-va-accountability-and-whistleblower-protection-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">routinely ignores<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-strikes-back-with-chip-subsidies-to-counter-us-and-china\/\" title=\"Europe retaliates with chip subsidies against US and China.\">bipartisan law aimed<\/a> to protect whistleblowers and fire bad employees. The Defense Department tweaks funding formulas to maximize political pain for members of Congress who don\u2019t go along with its appropriations requests. And sometimes, government scientists overstep their bounds by attempting to dictate policy on everything from schools to airline travel in the name of \u201cpublic health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The common thread is that some government employees are acting of their own accord, as opposed to carrying out the policies of their elected bosses. In some truly insidious cases, these individuals even weaponize the government against their perceived political opponents. <\/p>\n<p>In 2020, 51 former members of the intelligence community \u2014 including Barack Obama\u2019s CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper \u2014 signed a letter claiming that Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop had \u201call the classic earmarks of a Russian information campaign.\u201d The letter, organized to help Joe Biden and hurt Donald Trump, became grounds for legacy and social media to censor the laptop story. As I argued at the time, these officials crossed the line by abusing their influence to achieve a partisan goal. Numerous senior FBI officials knew what they were doing was wrong and outside the bounds of their duty, but they did so anyway because of their desire to stop Trump from becoming president. <\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump has been the biggest target of these \u201cdeep state\u201d actors, but he is far from the only one. Unethical bureaucrats who abuse their authority to push ideological agendas are a threat to all Americans. <\/p>\n<p>For example, in 2022, the FBI\u2019s Richmond field office issued a memo that called for surveillance of \u201cradical traditionalist Catholics\u201d who prefer the Latin Mass over bogus concerns of extremism. Meanwhile, Biden\u2019s Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/rubio-to-biden-protect-u-s-catholic-churches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continues to ignore<\/a> the hundreds of attacks against Catholic churches that have occurred over the past four years. <\/p>\n<p>Those men and women who believe they are above the law and can abuse authorities to punish their perceived political opponents have done more to harm trust in our institutions than anyone else. Their misconduct tarnishes the hard work of countless federal employees who serve their country with honor and distinction. Trying to blur the lines between these two groups, as The New York Times does, hurts the very institutions the Times purports to defend.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hating Those They Claim to Protect<\/h2>\n<p>The Times understands the distinction, so why did it publish a splashy article praising the \u201cdeep state\u201d? Unfortunately, the answer is very simple: Despite claiming to love democracy, many liberal elites distrust the vast majority of the American people \u2014 even despise them. This fact explains why they tried to ban Trump from the ballot. It is why they try to censor conservatives on social media. And it is why they push for unilateral policy change through the courts and corporations, instead of through Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than celebrating government workers who step over the line, we should be demanding their accountability. Politicians are accountable to voters, but federal employees are shielded from them. This protection gives them a sense of entitlement, which far too many use to pursue their own agendas. That needs to stop.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the Trump administration proposed bringing government employees in roles that influence federal policy into a new employment category, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/07\/22\/trump-presidency-schedule-f-federal-employees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schedule F<\/a>. Such a change would reduce the ability of unelected bureaucrats to obstruct and delay policies with which they disagree.\u00a0If government workers \u201cresist\u201d the lawful orders of their bosses, they should be treated like they would at any other job \u2014 they should be fired.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to another Trump administration, it\u2019s clear why liberal elites want to protect the \u201cdeep state.\u201d They hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for.
