The trial \u2063marked the first criminal trial against\u200c a former U.S. president.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The first day of former President Donald Trump\u2019s New York hush money trial has concluded with no jurors yet being selected to sit through the unprecedented criminal prosecution of a former U.S. President.<\/p>\n<p>At least 50 prospective jurors were dismissed by Judge Juan Merchan on Monday for admitting they would struggle to remain fair during the trial, with white women making up many of those who were dismissed, The New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/15\/us-news\/trumps-hush-money-nyc-trial-live-updates-reactions-photos-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. The trial \u2014 where the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-bill-clinton-escaped-metoo\/\" title=\"ANALYSIS: Bill Clinton Escaped #MeToo\">president stands accused<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt? Experts Weigh In\">falsifying business records<\/a> to cover up an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-blasts-hush-money-case-ahead-of-jury-selection-attack-on-america?topStoryPosition=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began<\/a> on Monday, marking the first proceedings in a criminal trial against a former U.S. president.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 50 prospective jurors who were dismissed for their partiality, at least nine more people raised their hands when Judge Merchan asked if they could not serve on the jury for any other reasons that remained undisclosed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/trump-hush-money-trial-04-15-24\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>. Of the 96 prospective jurors who entered the courtroom in the first panel, only 34 remained after the dismissals.<\/p>\n<p>Merchan gave Trump\u2019s defense a victory during the initial proceedings, saying that the prosecution could not play the \u201cAccess Hollywood\u201d tape of Trump. The judge also refused to allow prosecutors to bring up other sexual assault allegations against the former president that were made following the release of the \u201cAccess Hollywood\u201d tape in 2016, CNN reported.<\/p>\n<p>The judge also scheduled a hearing for next Tuesday on a motion from the prosecution that calls on Merchan to sanction and fine Trump for allegedly violating a gag order that prevents the defendant from talking about witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, Trump\u2019s team requested that the former president be excused from the trial next Thursday so he can hear arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court on his immunity claims stemming from his Washington, D.C., election interference case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArguing before the Supreme Court is a big deal, and I can certainly appreciate why your client would want to be there, but a trial in New York Supreme Court \u2026 is also a big deal,\u201d Merchan said.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Before court proceedings began on Monday, Trump delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-blasts-hush-money-case-ahead-of-jury-selection-attack-on-america?topStoryPosition=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarks<\/a> to reporters standing outside the Manhattan court, saying the trial is \u201can assault on America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing like this has ever happened before,\u201d he added. \u201cEvery legal scholar says this case is nonsense, it should never have been brought. \u2026 They\u2019ve said it. People that don\u2019t necessarily follow or like Donald Trump said this is an outrage that this case was brought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a political persecution, a persecution like never before. Nobody has ever seen anything like it,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cIt is an assault on America. And that\u2019s why I\u2019m very proud to be here. This is an assault on our country, and it\u2019s a country that\u2019s failing.
