The former CNN host, sometimes referred to as &#8220;Humpty Dumpty&#8221; or &#8220;Mr. Potato Head,&#8221; described showing the spud to his children in order to teach them a lesson about the evils of Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I once had a potato mailed to me. It came in a FedEx box, it was an actual potato, and I showed it to my kids,&#8221; Stelter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricAbbenante\/status\/1779648691332141178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s because that within the Fox [News] universe, I used to be called Humpty Dumpty, and from there, it became &#8216;Brian is a potato.&#8217; &#8230; I guess in this case it&#8217;s a joke, but it&#8217;s also an insult.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t clear whether Stelter, 38, fully understood the motives behind the spud stunt. There were times during Stelter&#8217;s career at CNN when the network seemed to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/28\/media\/fox-news-potato-head\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in on the joke<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Stelter was one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/another-partisan-hack-just-lost-his-job-at-cnn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partisan hacks<\/a> CNN fired in 2022 in an effort to restore dignity and credibility to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ga-poll-watcher-it-expert-non-trump-supporter-affidavit-sudden-surge-of-20000-mail-in-votes-for-biden-in-early-hours-on-nov\/\" title=\"GA Poll Watcher, IT Expert, Non-Trump Supporter Affidavit: Sudden Surge of 20,000 Mail-In-Votes For Biden In Early Hours On Nov\">news network<\/a>. Jeffrey Toobin, the legal analyst caught masturbating in front of colleagues on a Zoom call, was also <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/toobin-gets-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired<\/a>. Stelter was best known for complaining about Fox News, which he has accused of setting a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/brian-stelter-fox-news-honey-pot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">honey trap<\/a>&#8221; by dispatching a female intern to spy on him by feigning romantic interest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/parody\/journo-tears\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Counterpoint: There&#8217;s No Crying In Journalism<\/a>\t<\/p>\n<p>Dan Rather, the disgraced news anchor fired for airing a false report on George W. Bush&#8217;s military service records, frequently appeared <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/dan-rather-cnns-reliable-source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as a guest<\/a> on Stelter&#8217;s show, called <em>Reliable Sources<\/em>. Stelter often stressed the need for journalists to hold politicians accountable and wasn&#8217;t afraid to do so himself.
