Laura Kelly shot it down on Friday, wrongly claiming the legislation \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/governor.kansas.gov\/governor-kelly-vetoes-bills-allows-one-to-become-law-without-signature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tramples parental rights<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1727501355\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f04914019904fb0ae319ab67988b5fa8 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f04914019904fb0ae319ab67988b5fa8\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis divisive legislation targets a small group of Kansans by placing government mandates on them and dictating to parents how to best raise and care for their children,\u201d Kelly said in a statement. \u201cI do not believe that is a conservative value, and it\u2019s certainly not a Kansas value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kelly claimed the mutilative and sterilizing procedures, which often cause <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/28\/these-detransitioners-have-a-message-for-distressed-girls-mangling-your-body-is-a-sickness-not-a-cure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harrowing<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abigailshrier.substack.com\/p\/not-a-kitchen-table-issue-jen-psaki?s=r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">life-threatening<\/a> consequences to minors, amount to \u201cmedical care\u201d that shouldn\u2019t be subject to interference from the state. Yet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/10\/science\/transgender-teenagers-national-survey.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growing number<\/a> of children who undergo social or physical \u201ctransitions,\u201d such as adopting false pronouns, cutting off their healthy breasts or genitalia, or taking sterilizing drugs, suffer <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/28\/these-detransitioners-have-a-message-for-distressed-girls-mangling-your-body-is-a-sickness-not-a-cure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">irreversible damage<\/a> to their bodies and minds.  <\/p>\n<p>An independent review published in the United Kingdom last week found <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/10\/prominent-u-k-doctors-independent-review-finds-no-good-evidence-supports-chemically-castrating-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cno good evidence\u201d<\/a> to support transgender medical interventions for children. One of its biggest bombshell admissions was that many kids struggling with the realities of their sex grow out of that mental conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The same day Kelly vetoed protections for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-american-academy-of-pediatrics-silences-pediatricians-who-question-gender-affirmation-nonsense\/\" title=\"The American Academy of Pediatrics Silences Pediatricians Who Question \"Gender Affirmation\" Nonsense\">transgender-identifying minors<\/a>, she also <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.kansas.gov\/governor-kelly-vetoes-bills-allows-one-to-become-law-without-signature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vetoed a bill<\/a> that would deregulate sugaring, \u201ca hair removal technique that may be performed on minors,\u201d on the grounds that it \u201ccould lead to safety and sanitation problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-81f0bcadac42bbafa2bbb178a099b5ba fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-81f0bcadac42bbafa2bbb178a099b5ba\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe have a responsibility to protect Kansans \u2014 and this deregulation would threaten the health and safety of Kansans \u2014 particularly our children,\u201d Kelly said of the temporary body hair removal process.<\/p>\n<p>Legislators need a two-thirds majority in both chambers to quash Kelly\u2019s rejection of their bill aimed at protecting children from radical gender ideology. Kansas Speaker of the House Dan Hawkins <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DanHawkinsKS\/status\/1778897440323612732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> Friday that under his leadership, state representatives are prepared to do just that to \u201cprotect vulnerable Kansas kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaura Kelly will most surely find herself on the wrong side of history with her reckless veto of this common-sense protection for Kansas minors,\u201d he said in a statement shortly after Kelly\u2019s veto.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<p>Republican Senate President Ty Masterson, who <a href=\"https:\/\/kansasreflector.com\/2024\/03\/27\/kansas-legislature-sends-democratic-governor-bill-banning-under-18-transgender-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously said<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cRadical transgender ideology and the mutilation of minors is not legal nor welcome in Kansas,\u201d also hinted at action after telling reporters that <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/kansas-gender-affirming-care-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cthe radical left controls her veto pen.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0779dd0224603057af64b1daeb07951f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0779dd0224603057af64b1daeb07951f\"><\/div>\n<p>Republican legislators first rebuked Kelly for her position on transgenderism <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/28\/kansas-senate-stands-up-for-parents-and-female-athletes-with-override-of-democrats-veto-but-house-republicans-are-dragging-their-feet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in 2022<\/a> when they voted to override her veto on a law that banned males from infiltrating female sports teams.
