A bone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-is-liberal-q-anon-columnist-mocked-for-comparing-packed-restaurants-to-horror-movie\/\" title=\"\u2018This Is Liberal Q Anon\u2019: Columnist Mocked For Comparing \u2018Packed Restaurants\u2019 To \u2018Horror Movie\u2019\">cancer survivor<\/a> highlighted Obamacare&#8217;s negative impact, leading to increased premiums and reduced coverage. The law&#8217;s strict mandates \u200cforced insurers to make coverage less affordable, impacting those with preexisting \u200cconditions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Just before Easter, the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2024\/03\/28\/biden-harris-administration-protects-consumers-low-quality-coverage-limiting-junk-health-plans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> it had finalized a proposal it claimed would \u201cprotect consumers from being scammed into purchasing lower quality insurance, or \u2018junk insurance.\u2019\u201d The finalized rule will prevent insurers from offering short-term limited duration plans, which do not have to meet all of Obamacare\u2019s mandates and regulations, for longer than four months, down from three years (and potentially renewable for longer periods) under a <a href=\"http:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2018\/02\/20\/need-know-proposed-federal-rule-short-term-health-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump administration rule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But as one <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ImMeme0\/status\/1772279457711034482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">viral video<\/a> recorded in March suggested, if regulators wanted to crack down on \u201cjunk insurance,\u201d they should do something about Obamacare itself. The law has wrecked the marketplace for insurance, and rather than doing anything to help the many people harmed by the law, the Biden administration instead wants to crack down on any avenues Americans have used to escape its worst effects, like short-term limited duration plans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1412490002\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d91f30df1275e6f67ae652fda474439a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d91f30df1275e6f67ae652fda474439a\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2018Everything They Said Was Not True<\/strong>\u2018<\/h2>\n<p>The video, by a two-time bone cancer survivor who lost one of his arms, shows that Obamacare\u2019s harms extend to those with preexisting conditions:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>I heard all the talking points of \u201cif you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,\u201d \u201cif you like your plan, you can keep your plan,\u201d \u201cthe average family is going to save $1,500 a year,\u201d \u201cit\u2019s not a tax.\u201d \u2026 And then the Democrats were saying Republicans don\u2019t want you to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">health insurance<\/a> if you have preexisting conditions. Well I was a walking preexisting condition having cancer twice.<\/p>\n<p>My insurance was $185\/month with a $1,000 deductible. That was for a family of five. So I voted for Obama-Biden in 2008 based on Obamacare. Now fast forward to 2010 when Obamacare was implemented. Everything that they said was not true. The Supreme Court ruled that it was a tax if you didn\u2019t have insurance, that penalty. So that was a lie. Insurance premiums went up instead of down. That was a lie. The insurance policy that I had specifically that I had going through two bouts of cancer \u2014 chemotherapy, amputation, all of this stuff. It was great insurance. The insurance company canceled it. \u2026 They came up with a new offer and said this is what your new plan will be. \u2026 And when I looked at it, the cheapest insurance I could find to replace that one was $1,200 a month with a $6,000 deductible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"JAtjMX6qKdo43bHNpcLgiWvVzlE0syfG7m9\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is THE BEST RED PILLED video you will ever see. <\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B07EYfF8oP\">pic.twitter.com\/B07EYfF8oP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 I Meme Therefore I Am \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@ImMeme0) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ImMeme0\/status\/1772279457711034482?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>(A longer transcript is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2024\/03\/25\/voter_i_am_leaving_the_democratic_party_over_healthcare_everything_they_said_was_not_true.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>All of the attacks on Obamacare listed here are true, save one: While the video claimed Democrats sold the law on saving the average family $1,500 per year, then-candidate Obama actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/07\/23\/us\/23health.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> the law would save the average family <em>$2,500 per year<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Unaffordable Care Act<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Lest anyone believe this story represents an unintentional consequence or an anomaly, the harmful causes of Obamacare that this individual suffered come directly from the law itself. By mandating a richer benefit package, and allowing people to buy \u201cinsurance\u201d after they become sick \u2014 a contradiction in terms if ever one existed \u2014 the law forced insurance companies to assume that primarily sick people will purchase coverage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4ba386bab360796afe853b7c344dced fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c4ba386bab360796afe853b7c344dced\"><\/div>\n<p>With the benefit package mandated and their customer base sicker than before Obamacare, insurers have only three options to reduce the cost of coverage: 1) raise deductibles, 2) narrow networks, and\/or 3) increase premiums. Insurers have used some combination of all three levers, which is how the man in the video went from a plan with a premium of $185 per month and a $1,000 deductible to a plan with a premium of $1,200 per month and a $6,000 deductible.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration wants to advertise all the people enrolling in the exchanges in recent months. But as I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/31\/obamacare-enrollment-is-growing-because-the-welfare-state-expanded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently noted<\/a>, the Biden administration also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2024\/01\/24\/historic-21-million-people-choose-aca-marketplace-coverage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advertised<\/a> that 80 percent of those individuals \u201cwere able to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-times-editor-dean-baquet-responds-to-latest-project-veritas-videos\/\" title=\"NY Times Editor Dean Baquet Responds to Latest Project Veritas Videos\">find health care coverage<\/a> for $10 or less per month for plan year 2024 after subsidies.\u201d To turn the administration\u2019s salesmanship on its head, if you can only get people to sign up for coverage by having them pay nothing (or next to nothing), how much do they really value that coverage in the first place?<\/p>\n<p>The individual in our video apparently earns too much money to qualify for subsidies, making the \u201cAffordable\u201d Care Act quite unaffordable for him. It\u2019s enough for him to rue his political choices back in 2008: \u201cI voted for that sh-t. And it did nothing but hurt me and my family.\u201d Or, as he put it, the \u201cpiece of sh-t legislation,\u201d and the way it led to his plan\u2019s cancelation, meant he could not obtain follow-up cancer screenings for the several years he went without coverage.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hurting People with Preexisting Conditions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Obamacare hurt individuals who \u201cdid the right thing\u201d and maintained coverage before they got sick. It hurt people like the cancer survivor in the video, and the father of a colleague of mine, whom I profiled in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Case-Against-Single-Payer-System_And\/dp\/1645720020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my book<\/a>. In that case, my colleague\u2019s father got his previous insurance plan canceled because of Obamacare and then developed cancer. Again, so much for helping people with preexisting conditions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-65431d203b06084bb68b3760c46ba66c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-65431d203b06084bb68b3760c46ba66c\"><\/div>\n<p>The fact that the Biden administration went and killed the market for short-term limited duration insurance, an option that allowed some people to escape the worst effects of the \u201cUnaffordable\u201d Care Act, shows how the left will not tolerate anyone who dares try to opt out of their regulatory schemes.
