However, Michael Cohen, Trump&#8217;s former lawyer,\u200c doubts Trump will take the stand.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>One of former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s lawyers argued Sunday that Trump ought to take the witness stand in his hush <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>money<\/a> trial, claiming that he would be a \u201ccompelling witness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments from lawyer Will Scharf come a day before the trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, which relates to Trump\u2019s 34 counts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt? Experts Weigh In\">falsifying business records<\/a> to hide an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-rejects-trump-bid-to-shield-financial-records\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Rejects Trump Bid To Shield Financial Records\">alleged hush money payment<\/a> to former pornography film star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/stormy-daniels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Stormy Daniels<\/a> in 2016. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-cohen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Michael Cohen<\/a>, a former attorney to Trump, has expressed skepticism of the former president taking the stand during this trial, claiming that it\u2019s \u201cnot going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s going to be a decision for President Trump and the trial team depending on how the trial progresses,\u201d Scharf said on <em>Fox News Sunday<\/em>. \u201cI would say that I think if he does take the stand, President Trump would be a compelling witness. He did nothing wrong here. The truth is absolutely on his side, so that\u2019s a decision that\u2019s going to have to be made down the road, but one way or another, I have full confidence in both President Trump and the team that he has around him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scharf also discussed the start of jury selection on Monday, and stressed the importance of getting a politically neutral jury for this trial, especially as the United States is at \u201cthe height of election season.\u201d Besides the 34 counts of falsifying business records, Trump is facing dozens of other indictments while also seeking another run for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024<\/a> presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Trump stated that he intends to testify during this trail, and plans to \u201ctell the truth\u201d while on the witness stand.
