Rep. Jim Jordan asked for cooperation \u200bto investigate potential antitrust violations. This \u2062move \u200breflects a shift towards using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/un-world-on-verge-of-recession\/\" title=\"UN: World on Verge of Recession\">anti-trust measures<\/a> to counter corporate influence in media.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The House Judiciary Committee on Friday requested a transcribed interview with the head of the World Federation of Advertisers\u2019 Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a group through which the committee says major corporations colluded to try to bankrupt conservative media outlets by withholding advertising dollars.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2024\/04\/2024-04-12-JDJ-to-GARM-re-TI-request.pdf\">letter<\/a> obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, asks Robert Rakowitz, the Initiative Lead and Co-founder of GARM, to appear voluntarily before the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo advance our oversight and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jordans-house-panel-takes-aim-at-wef-backed-scheme-to-censor-harmful-online-content\/\" title=\"Jordan's House Committee targets WEF-supported plan to censor harmful online content.\">inform potential legislation related<\/a> to this coordination, the Committee must understand how and to what extent WFA and GARM may facilitate collusion,\u201d the letter continued. \u201cAs Initiative Lead and Co-founder of GARM, you possess unique and specialized information that will advance the Committee\u2019s oversight and inform legislative reforms. Accordingly, we request that you appear for a transcribed interview with the Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jordan adds in the letter the committee\u2019s belief that GARM \u201cmay be acting inconsistent with U.S. antitrust laws and congressional intent by coordinating GARM members\u2019 efforts to demonetize and eliminate disfavored content online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The missive is the latest piece of evidence that Republicans are turning to anti-trust protections \u2014 a monopoly-busting tool once heralded by the political Left \u2014 to target corporations who, even while nominally competitors, band together to push a political agenda.<\/p>\n<p>GARM has sought to set standards that block major corporations from advertising on media outlets that various partisan ratings firms claim promote \u201cmisinformation.\u201d Such ratings firms have rated mainstream, center-right publications like Reason Magazine and the New York Post as untrustworthy, while dutifully enforcing government lines such as claiming the coronavirus lab leak theory is a conspiracy theory\u2013even though the government now says it\u2019s likely true.<\/p>\n<p>GARM did not return a request for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary Committee said in an earlier letter that it has already received GARM documents that show that it was targeting media outlets specifically because of their politics, and that those outlets include The Daily Wire, Fox News, and Breitbart.<\/p>\n<p>Previous letters requesting documents \u201crelating to the categorization, demonetization, or elimination of online speech\u201d went to major corporations on GARM\u2019s \u201csteering committee\u201d \u2014 Unilever, Procter &#038; Gamble, GroupM, Diageo, and Mars \u2014 saying the documents \u201cdirectly connect\u201d the companies with such efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/docs-show-corporate-giants-are-colluding-to-demonetize-conservative-platforms-judiciary-committee-says\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>WFA announced the GARM\u2019s creation at the 2019 Cannes festival, a gathering of global elites, amidst complaints about \u201cdisinformation\u201d and \u201cfake news,\u201d but later that year said it would become a flagship project of the World Economic Forum (WEF)\u2019s \u201cPlatform for Shaping the Future of Media, Entertainment and Culture.\u201d \u2026<\/p>\n<p>GARM says it provides members with \u201cBrand Safety.\u201d For-profit firms like Newsguard have shown what that means in practice: Companies that might buy ads are given lists of what TV programs, channels, podcasts, or newspapers are either safe to advertise on or should be avoided. This is billed as avoiding risks to their reputation or boycotts\u2014essentially saying that if a company wants to avoid boycotts from the Left or smear campaigns, they should not do business with certain media outlets. \u2026<\/p>\n<p>The challenge of meaningfully steering the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservatives-must-resurrect-tea-party-principles-for-the-2024-election-cycle\/\" title=\"Conservatives must revive Tea Party principles in 2024.\">entire media ecosystem<\/a> was \u201cbig,\u201d it said, yet GARM included 61 major companies that buy a large portion of the advertising in the world, as well as 35 separate industry associations that represent many more advertisers.<\/p>\n<p>The WFA, along with the Global Disinformation Index, Newsguard, and other firms that would profit from \u201cdisinformation\u201d crackdowns, <a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/library\/signatories-2022-strengthened-code-practice-disinformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lobbied<\/a> the European Union for a \u201cStrengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation\u201d in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, the House Judiciary Committee asked for a transcribed interview with the leader of the World Federation of Advertisers\u2019 Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM).
