Google&#8217;s stance\u2062 aims to encourage lawmakers to\u200d reevaluate the \u2064proposed approach.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>With Google in a fight against a piece of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>California<\/a> state legislation that aims to pay online publishers, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2962445\/four-years-after-pandemic-sent-everyone-home-california-state-workers-are-going-back-to-the-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Californians<\/a> may hit a wall searching for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-continuous-media-covid-fear-mongering-may-backfire-and-diminish-democrat-voter-turnout\/\" title=\"The Continuous Media COVID Fear Mongering May BACKFIRE and Diminish Democrat Voter Turnout\">local news<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Google<\/a> has blocked access for some residents to news outlets in California to protest the bill, named the California Journalism Preservation Act, which will require the company to pay a fee to link the news outlets\u2019 articles. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, we believe CJPA undermines news in California,\u201d Jaffer Zaidi, Google vice-president of global news partnerships, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/products\/news\/california-journalism-preservation-act-puts-news-ecosystem-at-risk\/#:~:text=A%20pending%20bill%20in%20the,wrong%20approach%20to%20supporting%20journalism.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>blog post<\/a> on Friday. \u201cWe don\u2019t take these decisions lightly and want to be transparent with California publishers, lawmakers, and our users. To avoid an outcome where all parties lose and the California news industry is left worse off, we urge lawmakers to take a different approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zaidi also said the local news censorship is \u201ca short-term test for a small percentage of California users.\u201d Google has used the same content-blocking tactic in other places, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Canada<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Australia<\/a>, which already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mainstream-media-and-big-techs-seismic-shift-to-the-left\/\" title=\"Mainstream Media and Big Tech\u2019s Seismic Shift to the Left\">require online platforms<\/a> to pay journalism outlets. <\/p>\n<p>In a similar move, Meta threatened to remove news from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Facebook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Instagram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Instagram<\/a> last year if the bill passed Google said it would follow suit in taking action. \u201cIf passed, CJPA may result in significant changes to the services we can offer Californians and the traffic we can provide to California publishers,\u201d Zaidi wrote. <\/p>\n<p>The bill was passed by the California Assembly and is sitting in the California Senate Judiciary Committee. It will now have to go to the California State Senate and must be signed by Gov.
