Mayes expressed concerns\u200b for healthcare providers and\u2064 is exploring options \u2064to support them amid the legal changes.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has a golden state of mind as she explores options after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Arizona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Arizona\">Arizona<\/a> Supreme Court upheld a law outlawing <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"abortion\">abortion<\/a> unless a mother faces immediate life-threatening conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was handed down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/2959358\/arizona-supreme-court-upholds-civil-war-era-abortion-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"earlier this week\">earlier this week<\/a>, enraging abortion activists. It will be \u201cprospectively enforced\u201d by April 23. The Arizona Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/arizona-attorney-general-california-safe-haven-abortion-rcna147496\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> NBC News that her office is talking with neighboring states about a safe haven for abortion providers as she attempts to block enforcement of the law, mentioning California as one of the possible states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI totally understand the fear that doctors, pharmacists, and nurses are having right now in the face of the knowledge that we are barreling toward the potential implementation of this 1864 ban,\u201d Mayes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m working with other states on avenues for potentially having them go to those states to practice medicine in the near term. One of my visions is that potentially we could have a safe haven in California for our doctors, nurses, and abortion providers,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>California voters enshrined abortion until viability during the 2022 election, and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has regularly touted his state\u2019s access to abortion in contrast with states that restrict the practice.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona law has caused bipartisan backlash, with Democrats and some Republicans arguing that it goes too far with its restrictions. Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) blamed Republicans for the law being upheld, noting their support of the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in <em>Dobbs v.
