State Sen. Steven\u2063 Bradford, a member of the California Reparations \u200cTask Force, \u2062has introduced his separate set of reparation\u200d bills, reflecting \u2064the complexity of the \u2064reparations discussion in the state.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/reparations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Reparation<\/a> activists are at odds with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"California\">California<\/a> lawmakers, claiming the California Legislative Black Caucus\u2019s slate of 14 proposed legislation measures\u00a0introduced in January does not go far enough to mend the wrongdoings of slavery for black residents. <\/p>\n<p>The slate of reparation bills comes as the state is dealing with a $70 billion deficit, with several lawmakers focusing on education\u00a0and public outreach as more important than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/magazine-lead-stories\/2958920\/against-the-reparations-racket-this-progressive-scheme-compels-us-to-make-a-false-confession-about-our-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reparations<\/a>. Talk of reparations is quite unpopular with the majority of Californians, with 60% opposed to the idea. <\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Steven Bradford, a member of the California Reparations Task Force, introduced his own set of reparation bills, which haven\u2019t all been included in the CLBC\u2019s priority reparations legislation. Chris Lodgson, with the Coalition for a Just and Equitable California, has embraced Bradford\u2019s efforts and has disapproved of the CLBC for its slate of bills introduced. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so mad at them,\u201d Lodgson <a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/california-divide\/2024\/04\/reparations-california-legislature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> <em>CalMatters<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re mad at them in a hopefully productive way.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Bills included in the CLBC\u2019s reparation slate are measures that provide property tax relief in redlined communities, limit solitary confinement in state prisons, and mandate an apology from California and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) for the state\u2019s history of racism. Bradford has a bill included in the slate that would create a database of California residents whose <a href=\"https:\/\/digitaldemocracy.calmatters.org\/bills\/ca_202320240sb1050?slug=CA_202320240SB1050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>land was taken<\/a> through\u00a0eminent domain. None of the 14 bills slated include a plan to give direct payments to black residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost insulting to call their bills reparations,\u201d Lodgson said.<\/p>\n<p>The caucus narrowed down 26 bills recommended by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-to-show-lockdowns-are-killing-more-people-than-the-virus\/\" title=\"How To Show Lockdowns Are Killing More People Than The Virus\">task force<\/a> to 14.
