Laura expressed feeling alone and wanted to create a\u200c club where students\u2062 could \u200cunite \u2062and contribute to the community.\u2062 Support from First Liberty \u200bInstitute is aiding Laura in addressing\u200b the issue. \u200cLaura, an 11-year-old student \u2064at\u2062 Creekside Elementary School in Washington state, was prohibited from establishing an interfaith prayer \u2062group, even though the school had sanctioned an \u2062LGBT \u200cPride club. Feeling isolated, Laura\u200b aimed to form a club to foster \u2063unity and\u200d community involvement. The First Liberty Institute is supporting Laura in addressing this\u200b situation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">One week after her elementary school permitted an LGBT Pride club to be formed at the school, an eleven-year-old girl in Washington state says she was refused permission to start an interfaith prayer group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Laura, a student at Creekside Elementary School, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/fifth-grade-girl-speaks-out-washington-school-denied-request-start-interfaith-prayer-club\">Fox News<\/a>, \u201cI wanted to start it because I felt kind of alone in the classroom and really just at school. And I realized, I have some friends and I knew some other people that felt the same way, and so I talked to them and I was just like, \u2018You know what? It would be a great idea to make a club where people could come together and do good in the community.\u2019 That was kind of the idea of my interfaith peer club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">First Liberty Institute (L.A.W.), which is representing Laura, <a href=\"https:\/\/firstliberty.org\/cases\/creekside-prayer-club\/\">reported<\/a> that Laura and her mom met in February with the school\u2019s principal, Amy Allison, who informed them that all the funding for school clubs had been allocated in October, and Laura had missed the deadline, even though the Pride Club was formed one week before and the school allows a dozen other clubs, including the Green Team and the Toastmasters Club.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIn a follow-up meeting, the principal told L.A.W. that she could fill out an application to pay to use the school after hours. When L.A.W. asked why she would have to pay like an outside group when other student clubs don\u2019t have to pay, Principal Allison responded, \u2018I am sorry, [L.], I just can\u2019t tell you what you want to hear,\u2019 and \u2018we can\u2019t allow it,\u2019\u201d First Liberty added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe First Amendment is clear; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ohio-professor-who-refused-to-use-students-preferred-pronouns-can-sue-university-after-being-disciplined-federal-appeals-court-rules\/\" title=\"Ohio Professor Who Refused To Use Student\u2019s Preferred Pronouns Can Sue University After Being Disciplined, Federal Appeals Court Rules\">free speech clause<\/a> and the free exercise clause both protect Laura\u2019s ability to pray, to speak about her faith; to gather with other religious students,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/fifth-grade-girl-speaks-out-washington-school-denied-request-start-interfaith-prayer-club\">said<\/a> Kayla Toney, associate counsel at First Liberty Institute. \u201cThe law is clear: if the school allows at least one non-curricular club, no matter what the club is about, it has to allow a religious club.
