After serving since 1995, Bradley, in her third 10-year\u2064 term, plans to step down and allow new perspectives. The April 2025 election will pick her successor, with Republican Brad Schimel\u200b already a contender.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley\u2019s announcement on Thursday that she will not seek another term gives conservatives an opportunity to overturn the court\u2019s 4-3 liberal majority, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/11\/liberal-wisconsin-supreme-court-justice-wont-run-again-00151764\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley has sat on the state\u2019s Supreme Court since 1995 and is currently serving her third 10-year term. She was <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Wisconsin_Supreme_Court_elections,_2015\">reelected<\/a> with almost 60% of the vote in 2015, but has decided to not seek a fourth term\u00a0 in order to \u201cpass the torch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy decision has not come lightly. It is made after careful consideration and reflection. I know I can do the job and do it well. I know I can win re-election, should I run. But, it\u2019s just time to pass the torch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cnn-reveals-new-details-about-its-prime-time-schedule\/\" title=\"CNN unveils fresh prime-time schedule insights.\">bring fresh perspectives<\/a> to the court,\u201d Bradley said in a statement, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/04\/11\/wisconsin-justice-ann-walsh-bradley-will-not-run-for-re-election\/73288477007\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley\u2019s term will end in July 2025, and the election to choose her replacement will take place in April of that year. Republican Brad Schimel, who served as attorney general of Wisconsin from 2015 to 2019, announced In November 2023 that he would run for the seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no check on this new liberal Supreme Court majority,\u201d Schimel <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/wisconsin-supreme-court-brad-schimel-15cc48084e9c0177816c1557f2476d57\">said<\/a> after announcing his candidacy. \u201cThe only check on them is to take back the majority by winning in 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberals gained a majority on the court after Janet Protasiewicz won the election in April 2023, ending 15 years of conservative control, the AP noted.<\/p>\n<p>Just months later, the court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/state-supreme-court-orders-new-maps-for-wisconsin-months-after-liberals-win-majority-on-court\">struck down<\/a> the state\u2019s legislative maps, with the liberal justices arguing that the current maps violated the state\u2019s constitution and needed to be redrawn.
