Several lawsuits \u2062challenging the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/up-for-debate-trump-desantis-and-2024-gop-hopefuls-stance-on-elections\/\" title=\"Debate: Trump, DeSantis, and 2024 GOP hopefuls' views on elections.\">election integrity \u2063law<\/a> are \u2064pending.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Two provisions in Georgia\u2019s 2021 election integrity law will be on trial in federal court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/georgias-infamous-voter-suppression-law-heads-to-trial-for-the-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beginning<\/a> April 15, as part of a long effort by the left to dismantle election security in the Peach State.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s Republican-led legislature passed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/api\/legislation\/document\/20212022\/201498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 202<\/a> \u2014 the Election Integrity Act of 2021 \u2014 following the 2020 election. The case was brought by VoteAmerica, the Voter Participation Center, and the Center for Voter Information. VoteAmerica was previously funded by Democracy Builders Fund, whose founder former Obama adviser Seth Andrew was later charged with \u201cstealing funds from\u00a0his own charter school network in 2021,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voteamerica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Influence Watch<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1512656445\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7b72d9aea09b231e2a91e63afea73a84 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7b72d9aea09b231e2a91e63afea73a84\"><\/div>\n<p>On trial Monday are two provisions of the election law, one which says absentee ballot applications cannot be prefilled with information about the voter and another that says \u201call persons or entities \u2026 that send applications for absentee ballots to electors in a primary, election, or runoff shall mail such applications only to individuals who have not already requested, received, or voted an absentee ballot in the primary, election, or runoff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In September, Judge J.P. Boulee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1792023.9.27-order-granting-in-part-and-denying-in-part-msj.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">granted<\/a> the state summary judgment on the questions of whether the law was inappropriately broad and whether it violated the plaintiffs\u2019 freedom of association. He denied their request for summary judgment on whether the provision violates plaintiffs\u2019 right to free speech, so the parties will take up that issue in his courtroom on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Other leftist groups have launched seven other pending lawsuits challenging the election integrity law.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This Isn\u2019t the First Democrat Attack on SB 202<\/h2>\n<p>Dozens of corporations like Major League Baseball, Delta Airlines, and Patagonia boycotted the state of Georgia after Democrats waged a smear campaign against Republicans over the election law. President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/03\/26\/statement-by-president-biden-on-the-attack-on-the-right-to-vote-in-georgia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> the policies \u201cJim Crow in the 21st Century.\u201d Many of these attacks hinged on the false assumption that requiring voters to show an ID to prove they are who they claim to be is \u201cvoter suppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-49df937ac10986d90a4e497d2995a0f4 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-49df937ac10986d90a4e497d2995a0f4\"><\/div>\n<p>But despite the hysteria, voter ID laws are quite common \u2014 in fact, Georgia already had a voter ID law in place for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/georgia-voting-law-9-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in-person voting<\/a>, as at least 35 other states do. The new law simply extended the voter ID law to absentee ballots.<\/p>\n<p>At the time the legislation was passed, about 200,000 Georgians \u2014 less than 3 percent of the state\u2019s adult <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/GA\/AGE295222\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">population<\/a> \u2014 lacked a driver\u2019s license or state identification card, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/26\/politics\/georgia-voting-law-black-voters\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a>. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/free-georgia-photo-id-card-proposed-for-absentee-voting-requirements\/SKID6EFSRVD75GLRFPVKIUHI7E\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> at the time that 97 percent of registered Georgia voters had an accepted form of ID \u201con file with the secretary of state\u2019s office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgia residents can receive a free ID card from the state by simply going to their county registrar\u2019s office and providing proof of residency and other documentation such as their social security number and proof of citizenship. Voters who choose to vote via absentee ballot can either provide their ID or verify their identity using the last four digits of their Social Security number. <\/p>\n<p>Another false claim was that the legislation would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/atlanta-based-news-outlet-retracts-false-claims-about-new-ga-elections-law-limiting-times-and-voter-access\/\" title=\"Atlanta-based news outlet retracts false claims about new Ga. elections law limiting times and voter access\">end voting hours early<\/a>. However, the law actually expanded in-person early voting dates and hours for most counties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fbe243b0d736a25a180b189e0d9e3846 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fbe243b0d736a25a180b189e0d9e3846\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s sick. It\u2019s sick,\u201d Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/03\/25\/remarks-by-president-biden-in-press-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cDeciding that you\u2019re going to end voting at five o\u2019clock when working people are just getting off work.\u201d The White House then put out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/03\/26\/statement-by-president-biden-on-the-attack-on-the-right-to-vote-in-georgia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">written statement<\/a> reiterating the false claim. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong the outrageous parts of this new state law, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wapo-fact-checker-biden-misled-about-georgia-election-law-it-expands-voting-opportunities-for-most-georgians\/\" title=\"WaPo Fact Checker: Biden Misled About Georgia Election Law, It Expands Voting Opportunities For Most Georgians\">ends voting hours early<\/a> so working people can\u2019t cast their vote after their shift is over,\u201d it warned.<\/p>\n<p>Even for The Washington Post\u2019s \u201cfact checker\u201d Glenn Kessler, this claim was so preposterous it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/30\/biden-falsely-claims-new-georgia-law-ends-voting-hours-early\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earned<\/a> four Pinocchios. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot a single expert we consulted who has studied the law understood why Biden made this claim, as this was the section of law that expanded early voting for many Georgians,\u201d he wrote. The Post confirmed the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/remember-jim-crow-2-0-voting-in-georgia-surges-after-democrats-complained-about-racist-republican-rules\/\" title=\"Remember \u2018Jim Crow 2.0?\u2019 Voting In Georgia Surges After Democrats Complained About \u2018Racist\u2019 Republican Rules\">law permits polling places<\/a> to remain open until 7:00 p.m. during early voting, which is \u201cthe same as Election Day in Georgia,\u201d and that voters who are in line by 7:00 p.m. may still cast a vote. <\/p>\n<p>The year after the legislation was passed, roughly 800,000 Georgians cast an early, in-person ballot \u2014 three times the number of early in-person votes cast in 2018 and higher than in 2020, The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/21\/voting-is-surging-georgia-despite-controversial-new-election-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ff6291d81f496c8f013ba9a03d80ce66 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ff6291d81f496c8f013ba9a03d80ce66\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia&#8217;s 2021 election integrity law faces trial in federal court from April 15.
