Some Republicans refrained from signing, questioning\u200b the evidence presented. Democrats are aiming to swiftly dismiss the charges against Mayorkas.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Nearly the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Republican\">Republican<\/a> conference is calling on Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Chuck Schumer (D-NY)\">Chuck Schumer (D-NY)<\/a> to ensure a full impeachment trial is held for Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alejandro-mayorkas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Alejandro Mayorkas\">Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a> as the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\" House \"> House <\/a>prepares to transmit the articles of impeachment over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Senate\">Senate<\/a> next week.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgraham.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/662067f0-fadd-41c6-aaaf-860faed0c15c\/final-schumer-letter-re-mayorkas-trial.pdf\">letter<\/a> sent to Schumer, 43 GOP senators led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) urged the Senate to \u201cuphold its constitutional responsibility to properly adjudicate the House of Representatives\u2019 impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Six Republicans did not sign the letter, including several who have questioned whether the House had presented enough evidence to prove Mayorkas committed \u201chigh crimes and misdemeanors\u201d while enacting President Joe Biden\u2019s border policies, such as Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mitt Romney (R-UT). <\/p>\n<p>Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Rand Paul (R-KY) did not sign the letter, although it\u2019s unclear why they decided not to be part of the effort. Tuberville has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuberville.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/tuberville-i-will-be-voting-to-hold-secretary-mayorkas-accountable\/\">been outspoken<\/a> about the need for a full Senate trial, while Cassidy said this week that he would not support a measure to table impeachment charges.<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes as Democrats have signaled they plan to dismiss the charges against Mayorkas swiftly in an effort to move past the trial and remind voters that Republicans tanked a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-running-for-reelection-is-his-decision-to-make-amid-bad-blood-with-trump-ted-cruz\/\" title=\"Ted Cruz says it's up to McConnell to decide on reelection despite strained relationship with Trump\">border deal earlier<\/a> this year. However, Schumer has not publicly said what his plans are for the impeachment trial. <\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/2959878\/house-delay-mayorkas-impeachment-senate\/\"> decided to deliver<\/a> the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to Schumer next week instead of on Wednesday so that senators would be able to devote more time to the matter toward the beginning of a work week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re ready to go whenever they are,\u201d Schumer said, speaking to reporters this week after Johnson delayed delivery of Mayorkas\u2019s impeachment articles. \u201cWe\u2019re sticking with our plan. We\u2019re going to move this as expeditiously as possible.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 1797, twenty-one individuals have been impeached by the House of Representatives.
