Stefanik stresses the \u2064importance \u2064of prompt justice and accountability in Harvard&#8217;s administration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>&#8216;Justice for this incident should have been served quickly,&#8217; Elise Stefanik writes in letter to Ivy League school<\/h2>\n<figure><figcaption> \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\tElom Tettey-Tamaklo, others attack Israeli student (Screenshot)\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Harvard University graduate students who accosted an Israeli classmate are negotiating with prosecutors over a court date and may face criminal charges, though the school has yet to take disciplinary action against them.<\/p>\n<p>The two students\u2014identified in an October <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/israeli-harvard-business-school-student-accosted-and-harassed-amid-gaza-die-in-on-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> as <em>Harvard Law Review<\/em> editor Ibrahim Bharmal and divinity school student Elom Tettey-Tamaklo\u2014are &#8220;currently in the process of negotiating court dates&#8221; with prosecutors over their actions during an Oct. 18 &#8220;die-in&#8221; protest, according to a Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/81b76c35801\/ba5bc10e-1fc5-4864-a7fd-d77bbb8611e2.pdf?rdr=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> from Rep. Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.). Bharmal and Tettey-Tamaklo were <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/israeli-harvard-business-school-student-accosted-and-harassed-amid-gaza-die-in-on-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filmed<\/a> shoving and accosting a first-year Israeli student at Harvard Business School.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik&#8217;s letter, which was sent to interim Harvard president Alan Garber and Harvard Corporation head Penny Pritzker, says an initial hearing in the case is scheduled for May 7. At that hearing, a court official will determine whether there is enough evidence to criminally charge the students.<\/p>\n<p>Both Bharmal and Tettey-Tamaklo remain in good standing with the school, according to Stefanik&#8217;s letter, which notes that Harvard has produced &#8220;no evidence of punishment against those who have committed crimes and violated Harvard&#8217;s code of conduct.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tettey-Tamaklo is set to graduate from Harvard in May, according to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/elom-t-ab712b163\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a>, meaning he could receive a degree from the Ivy League institution before his criminal case is settled. Harvard declined to comment on whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-students-who-accosted-israeli-classmate-have-a-court-date-though-university-has-yet-to-discipline-them\/\" title=\"Harvard students facing court date for confronting Israeli classmate, university yet to take action\">students facing criminal charges<\/a> are eligible to receive degrees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Justice for this incident should have been served quickly,&#8221; Stefanik wrote in her letter, &#8220;and the delay of justice that specifically allows an antisemitic student to graduate is an affront to accountability and demonstrates the cultural rot of Harvard University&#8217;s leadership that has allowed antisemitism to continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>University spokesman Jonathan Swain issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/stefanik-blasts-harvard-for-failure-to-discipline-students-who-allegedly-assaulted-israeli-classmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> on Thursday that said Tettey-Tamaklo &#8220;is not scheduled to graduate in May 2024,&#8221; but he declined to provide more information.<\/p>\n<p>During the October &#8220;die-in,&#8221; Tettey-Tamaklo, Bharmal, and other protesters pushed, shoved, and surrounded the Israeli student, using keffiyehs to block their own faces and the Israeli student&#8217;s view. The protesters repeatedly shouted &#8220;SHAME!&#8221; as the Jewish student said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t grab me,&#8221; and &#8220;Don&#8217;t touch my neck.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/israeli-harvard-business-school-student-accosted-and-harassed-amid-gaza-die-in-on-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">incident<\/a> was first reported by the<em> Free Beacon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the ordeal, Harvard <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/harvard-scrubs-online-bio-of-student-captured-on-video-harassing-israeli-classmate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scrubbed<\/a> Tettey-Tamaklo&#8217;s online bio, a move that came as the school launched a task force to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-law-student-says-pal-at-anti-israel-protest-was-protecting-her-from-aggressive-jew\/\" title=\"Harvard Law Student Claims Friend Protected Her from 'Aggressive' Individual at Anti-Israel Protest\">assist student protesters<\/a> whose names were publicized after they blamed Israel for Hamas&#8217;s Oct. 7 terror attack. Harvard later <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/report-harvard-grad-student-captured-on-film-accosting-classmate-removed-from-proctor-role\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">removed Tettey-Tamaklo<\/a> from his role as a freshman proctor, a supervisory role in which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-grad-student-who-accosted-israeli-classmate-and-supervised-undergraduate-students-glorified-convicted-palestinian-terrorist\/\" title=\"Harvard Grad Student Who Accosted Israeli Classmate and Supervised Undergraduate Students Glorified Convicted Palestinian Terrorist\">graduate students live<\/a> among freshmen.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard has otherwise &#8220;done nothing to sanction&#8221; Tettey-Tamaklo, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/harvard-students-captured-on-film-accosting-israeli-classmate-remain-in-good-standing-with-school-lawsuit-alleges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January lawsuit<\/a> that accuses Harvard of failing to combat &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-students-captured-on-film-accosting-israeli-classmate-remain-in-good-standing-with-school-lawsuit-alleges\/\" title=\"Lawsuit claims Harvard students filmed harassing Israeli peer, yet face no consequences\">outrageous antisemitic conduct<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In March 2023, while serving as a proctor, Tettey-Tamaklo <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/harvard-grad-student-who-accosted-israeli-classmate-and-supervised-undergraduate-students-glorified-convicted-palestinian-terrorist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote an article<\/a>, published by the Institute for Palestine Studies, that glorified Palestinian terrorist Fatima Bernawi, who was imprisoned for her role in an attempted bombing of a Jerusalem movie theater in 1967.\t<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I started learning about Palestine, I was always struck by the women who featured prominently in the movement&#8217;s work,&#8221; Tettey-Tamaklo wrote. &#8220;However, one woman&#8217;s story struck me and has stayed with me ever since: Fatima Bernawi.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A true appreciation and celebration of underrepresented histories of Palestinian women like Bernawi\u2014among others\u2014cannot be relegated to the dusty corridors of history,&#8221; the Harvard student wrote.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elise Stefanik criticizes Harvard University for delay in justice after Israeli student attacked.
