Brown warned that Chinese EVs, with \u2062government \u200dsubsidies and low prices, \u2063could harm US automakers&#8217; \u2063competitiveness. Sherrod Brown\u00a0(D-OH) asked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>President Joe Biden<\/a> on Thursday to ban all sales of Chinese-made electric vehicles in the United States in an effort to align himself with union voters in the Buckeye State as he faces a tough battle for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press\/release\/sherrod-brown-calls-for-banning-chinese-electric-vehicles\" title>letter<\/a> to Biden, Brown described the Chinese-made EVs as an \u201cexistential threat to the American auto industry,\u201d warning that low price points for the Chinese-made vehicles, coupled with steep government subsidies from Beijing, would all but make it impossible for U.S. automakers to compete. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Chinese electric vehicles are allowed to enter the U.S. market, it could decimate the American auto industry,\u201d Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/04112024evlettertopresidentbiden.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>, noting that American automakers and autoworkers \u201ccannot, and should not be expected to compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are currently no Chinese-made EVs for sale in the U.S. But Brown\u2019s letter comes as the Alliance of American Automobile Manufacturers and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marriott-att-airbnbheres-the-list-of-corporations-announcing-they-wont-donate-to-gop-lawmakers-who-objected-to-electoral-votes-from-contested-states\/\" title=\"Marriott, AT&#038;T, Airbnb\u2026Here\u2019s The List Of Corporations Announcing They Won\u2019t Donate To GOP Lawmakers Who Objected To Electoral Votes From Contested States\">trade groups<\/a> have raised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanmanufacturing.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/On-a-Collision-Course-FINAL-22024.pdf\" title>fears<\/a> about the recent influx of Chinese investments in the West and in particular in Mexico, where Chinese-owned BYD and others have spent millions to build out new manufacturing plants.<\/p>\n<p>In a February report, the Alliance of American Automobile Manufacturers described China\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-senate-democratic-electric-vehicle-tax-credit-plan-faces-questions\/\" title=\"U.S. Senate Democratic electric vehicle tax credit plan faces questions\">auto manufacturing facilities<\/a> in Mexico as a strategy designed to \u201cgain backdoor access to American consumers by circumventing existing policies that are keeping China\u2019s autos out of the U.S. market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group added that this would be an \u201cextinction-level event\u201d for the U.S. auto industry.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese EVs are heavily subsidized by the government and carry a much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/left-wing-billionaire-george-soros-bankrolling-group-behind-harassment-of-kyrsten-sinema\/\" title=\"Left-Wing Billionaire George Soros Bankrolling Group Behind Harassment of Kyrsten Sinema\">smaller price tag<\/a> than current U.S. offerings.
