He clarified that FISA\u200d 702 wasn\u2019t used to investigate Trump\u2019s campaign and criticized Trump&#8217;s\u2063 stance on FBI surveillance authority.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Ex-FBI Deputy Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/andrew-mccabe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew McCabe<\/a> said on Thursday the bureau made \u201cmany mistakes\u201d in seeking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/fisa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)<\/a> authority to snoop on Carter Page, an aide to former President Donald Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The comments were made during a CNN interview in which McCabe defended FISA\u2019s Section 702 \u2014 which empowers the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/huge-attorney-sidney-powell-confirms-alleged-dominion-servers-in-germany-were-confiscated-video\/\" title=\"HUGE! Attorney Sidney Powell CONFIRMS Alleged Dominion Servers in Germany Were Confiscated -- VIDEO\">intelligence community<\/a> to collect data on non-U.S. citizens abroad \u2014 as Congress debates whether to reauthorize it.<\/p>\n<p>McCabe, now a CNN law enforcement analyst, responded to Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-says-kill-fisa-as-lawmakers-consider-surveillance-reauthorization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">call<\/a> to \u201cKILL FISA\u201d while saying it was used to spy on his campaign, after which the House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-blocks-fisa-spy-bill-opponents-demand-warrant-requirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocked<\/a> consideration of a reauthorization bill just days before Section 702 sunsets.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Disgraced former FBI agent Andy McCabe: &#8220;[FISA] 702 authorities were never used in the \u2014 in the course of that investigation of Donald Trump &#038; his campaign &#038; some of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/clinton-foundation-donations-have-fallen-nearly-75-since-2016\/\" title=\"Clinton Foundation Donations Have Fallen Nearly 75% Since 2016\">campaign associates<\/a>. We now know there are many mistakes in that FISA. Those are all regrettable. But that is not Section 702. Totally different thing here,\u201d McCabe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy guess \u2026 is that it\u2019s not surprising that Donald Trump is against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-did-a-pentagon-subagency-dedicated-to-countering-wmds-give-37-5-million-to-firm-with-ties-to-wuhan-lab\/\" title=\"Why Did A Pentagon Subagency Dedicated To Countering WMDs Give .5 Million To Firm With Ties To Wuhan Lab?\">surveillance capacity<\/a> and authority for the FBI because he is someone who\u2019s been investigated by the FBI. But, nevertheless, he is absolutely wrong on this count,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>McCabe signed an application seeking FISA authority to spy on Page, part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1442002\/doj-inspector-general-finds-17-significant-errors-or-omissions-in-carter-page-fisa-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chain of approval<\/a> that came under fire over its partial reliance on an unverified dossier, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2185157\/andrew-mccabe-shocked-and-disappointed-by-problems-found-in-carter-page-fisa-warrant-he-approved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">testified<\/a> to Congress he would not have done so knowing what he learned later.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/03\/16\/571671917\/justice-department-fires-embattled-fbi-deputy-director-just-short-of-retirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired<\/a> McCabe from the FBI in 2018 \u2014 hours before he was set to retire with a pension \u2014 after an inspector general report faulting him for a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/mccabe-show-lack-candor-comey-doj-inspector-general\/story?id=54450687\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201clack of candor\u201d<\/a> regarding disclosures to the media.<\/p>\n<p>McCabe sued over his firing in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/08\/us\/politics\/mccabe-trump-fbi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claiming<\/a> his dismissal was \u201cpolitically motivated and retaliatory\u201d following his leadership in the Trump-Russia investigation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/08\/us\/politics\/mccabe-trump-fbi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won back<\/a> his pension and other benefits in a 2021 settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Some lawmakers who opposed advancing the FISA bill this week have demanded a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/4584117-fisa-spy-powers-rules-warrant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warrant requirement<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/teachers-compile-list-of-parents-who-question-racial-curriculum-plot-war-on-them\/\" title=\"Teachers Compile List Of Parents Who Question Racial Curriculum, Plot War On Them\">officials seeking<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/biggs.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-biggs-introduces-major-legislation-end-warrantless-surveillance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">access data concerning U.S. citizens<\/a> \u2014 ostensibly for law enforcement \u2014 that gets swept up in monitoring foreign persons.<\/p>\n<p>FBI Director Christopher Wray is among those pushing to preserve FISA\u2019s Section 702 authorities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?534718-1\/fbi-director-testifies-fy-2025-budget-request&#038;vod&#038;start=1028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telling<\/a> Congress on Thursday they are \u201ccritical\u201d to protecting Americans and claiming that adding a warrant requirement would be \u201cdangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-says-kill-fisa-as-lawmakers-consider-surveillance-reauthorization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> the FISA bill, as it stands, would not only reauthorize Section 702 for five years, but also implement reforms that would \u201cactually kill the abuses\u201d directed at Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>After the vote on Wednesday, in which 19 Republicans joined with all voting Democrats to oppose consideration of the FISA bill, Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wray-calls-for-restoration-of-section-702-of-fisa-potential-for-a-coordinated-attack-in-u-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> lawmakers will \u201cregroup\u201d and insisted the United States \u201ccan\u2019t allow a critical tool like this to just expire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe admitted to multiple errors in the FISA process related to Carter Page, a former Trump campaign aide.
