Simpson\">O.J. Simpson<\/a> following his Wednesday death from cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson, who won a Heisman Trophy playing at the University of Southern California before embarking on a Hall of Fame <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nfl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"NFL\">NFL<\/a> career, polarized the nation after he was charged and eventually acquitted in 1995 of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts are with his families through this difficult time, obviously his family and loved ones,\u201d White House press secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> told reporters on Thursday when asked about Simpson\u2019s death and if he had ever interacted with President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a>. \u201cAnd I\u2019ll say this. I know they have asked for some privacy, so we are going to respect that.
