Yet those tensions haven\u2019t precluded a pledge \u201cto do all we can to protect Israel\u2019s security\u201d against a potential \u201csignificant attack on Israel\u201d from Iran, as Biden put it Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur commitment to Israel\u2019s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/04\/10\/remarks-by-president-biden-and-prime-minister-kishida-fumio-of-japan-in-joint-press-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> reporters. \u201cLet me say it again: ironclad.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The strike in Damascus has been characterized as the first apparent maneuver to impose a cost on Iran for supporting Hamas \u2014 which perpetrated the Oct. 7 terrorist attack that ignited the war in Gaza \u2014 and other militant groups, such as the Houthis, who have fired missiles at ships in the Red Sea in an apparent bid to raise the costs of the Gaza war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Iranian navy is targeting our Navy. Why don\u2019t we put those Iranian spy ships at the bottom of the ocean quickly? And I guarantee you we\u2019ll start to reestablish deterrence,\u201d Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CMflfQ324yk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a> Thursday on the Hugh Hewitt Radio Show, in a reference to Iranian vessels perceived as supporting the Houthis attacks. \u201cHeck, in two hours, they could sink the whole Iranian navy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan suggested that the U.S. Navy will \u201chave sailors and marines swimming with sharks in the Red Sea\u201d if Biden doesn\u2019t approve such a strike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our military wants to do it. And I think they\u2019re not getting permission to do it,\u201d the Alaska Republican said. You know, the USS Carney took 30 missiles the other day, missiles and drones, 30. They had to shoot them all down.
