Readers have to scan eight paragraphs under the headline, \u201cPolice fire 96 shots in 41 seconds, killing Black man during traffic stop,\u201d before learning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shocking-bodycam-footage-of-police-responding-to-altercation-between-georgia-democrat-senate-candidate-raphael-warnock-and-his-wife-released-video\/\" title=\"Shocking Bodycam Footage of Police Responding to Altercation Between Georgia Democrat Senate Candidate Raphael Warnock and His Wife Released (VIDEO)\">bodycam footage<\/a> indicates Dexter Reed fired first, wounding an officer. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDexter Reed\u2019s mother remembers the last time she saw her son alive. \u2018Mom, I\u2019m going for a ride,\u2019 he told her, before heading out in the car that he had purchased just three days earlier,\u201d the Post\u2019s story began. \u201cReed, 26, was killed that same day, when tactical-unit police officers fired 96 bullets at him within 41 seconds, according to Chicago\u2019s Civilian Office of Police Accountability, or COPA, which investigates allegations of police misconduct and police shootings.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1249061162\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fb3be269ce9b6768ef84c2d64babf394 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fb3be269ce9b6768ef84c2d64babf394\"><\/div>\n<p>Readers had to keep scrolling to find \u201cCOPA said its review of the footage and initial reports \u2018appear to confirm that Mr. Reed fired first,\u2019 hitting one officer while four others returned fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t just the Washington Post that ran with the hysterical headline highlighting 96 shots before presenting any evidence Reed shot at police first. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/bodycam-video-released-of-chicago-cops-firing-96-shots-at-dexter-reed-during-traffic-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/09\/us\/dexter-reed-chicago-police-shooting-video\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2024\/04\/09\/seatbelt-check-cops-fired-96-shots-at-black-motorist-killing-him\/73265324007\/\">USA Today<\/a> each framed the shooting as another episode of police misconduct. His shots \u201calmost kill[ed] an officer,\u201d  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/chicago\/news\/chicago-police-oversight-agency-officers-dexter-reed-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said <\/a>Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara. The police shot back. The same online fundraising platform <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/19\/gofundme-denied-rittenhouse-fundraising-while-crowdsourcing-funds-for-blm-rioters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shut down<\/a> a similar campaign for Kyle Rittenhouse in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoFundMe\u2019s Terms of Service prohibit raising money for the legal defense of an alleged violent crime,\u201d the company <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/19\/gofundme-denied-rittenhouse-fundraising-while-crowdsourcing-funds-for-blm-rioters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote <\/a>in a statement following Rittenhouse\u2019s jury acquittal on all charges a year after summer riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin. <\/p>\n<p>Rittenhouse was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2021\/11\/19\/not-guilty-on-all-counts-jury-completely-exonerates-kyle-rittenhouse-affirms-right-to-self-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charged <\/a>with first-degree reckless homicide, two charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree intentional homicide, and attempted first-degree intentional homicide after he shot three rioters who advanced on him.
