Reynolds criticized the Biden administration&#8217;s immigration approach, emphasizing the\u2063 enforcement of existing\u2062 laws.\u200b The law mirrors Texas&#8217; contentious\u2064 immigration measure and goes\u200d into effect on July 1.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Republican Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law on Wednesday that allows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-canvassers-rescind-their-votes-to-certify-wayne-county-michigan-results\/\" title=\"Republican Canvassers Rescind Their Votes to Certify Wayne County, Michigan, Results\">state authorities<\/a> to arrest and deport immigrants in Iowa who have previously been deported or denied entry into the country.<\/p>\n<p>The measure was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-led-state-passes-bill-similar-to-texas-immigration-law-being-challenged-by-biden-admin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> last month by Iowa\u2019s GOP-controlled legislature, with multiple Democrats joining Republicans in sending the bill to Reynolds\u2019 desk. The new law, which is set to go into effect on July 1, makes \u201cillegal reentry\u201d a state crime, and illegal immigrants who break the law could face up to two years in prison and deportation, Iowa Public Radio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iowapublicradio.org\/state-government-news\/2024-04-10\/iowa-governor-reynolds-texas-style-immigration-enforcement-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration has failed to enforce our nation\u2019s immigration laws, putting the protection and safety of Iowans at risk,\u201d Reynolds <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.iowa.gov\/press-release\/2024-04-10\/gov-reynolds-signs-several-bills-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cThose who come into our country illegally have broken the law, yet Biden refuses to deport them. This bill gives Iowa law enforcement the power to do what he is unwilling to do: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsom-recall-petition-close-to-success\/\" title=\"Newsom Recall Petition Close To Success\">enforce immigration laws<\/a> already on the books.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the new state law, an immigrant could be guilty of a Class C felony and face up to 10 years in prison for illegally entering the country if he\/she was arrested for committing another felony. The law also requires Iowa judges to submit an order for a person convicted of illegally entering the U.S. to be returned to their home country.<\/p>\n<p>The new Iowa law is similar to a Texas immigration measure that is currently stuck in a legal battle with the Biden administration. The Texas law, which also allows state authorities to arrest and deport immigrants for illegally entering the U.S., is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-judge-says-there-will-be-real-consequences-after-texas-blocked-again-from-enforcing-immigration-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocked<\/a> by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-court-is-fast-tracking-sidney-powells-request-for-a-forensic-exam-of-dominion-voting-machines\/\" title=\"Federal Court Is Fast-Tracking Sidney Powell\u2019s Request For A Forensic Exam Of Dominion Voting Machines\">federal appeals court<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After Texas passed the immigration law, the Biden administration, along with groups such as the ACLU sued.
