This measure follows advocacy efforts by \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tucker-carlson-slams-nih-study-that-created-transgender-monkeys-for-hiv-research\/\" title=\"Tucker Carlson Slams NIH Study That Created Transgender Monkeys for HIV Research\">animal rights groups<\/a> like the \u2064White Coat Waste \u2064Project. The\u200d act seeks to put an end to inhumane experiments on pets funded by taxpayers. The &#8220;PAAW Act,&#8221; introduced by Representatives Nancy Mace and Jared Moskowitz, is a bipartisan\u200d initiative crafted to terminate federal funding for distressing tests on cats and dogs administered by the National \u2064Institutes of\u200d Health.\u200d This legislation aligns with advocacy campaigns pioneered \u200cby animal rights \u2062organizations\u200d such as \u2063the White Coat Waste Project, all aiming to halt cruel experiments on \u2064animals supported by taxpayers.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A bipartisan measure targeting maximum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2446949\/bill-maher-blasts-nih-for-colossal-failure-of-animal-testing-start-helping-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>pain tests<\/a> on cats and dogs was introduced on Thursday, the latest in a string of efforts to curb tax dollar support for animal testing.<\/p>\n<p>While the \u201cPAAW Act\u201d has a cute-sounding name, it would have a very serious effect, according to the sponsors, Reps. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Nancy-Mace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Nancy Mace<\/a> (R-SC) and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL). It would end most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/1574706\/lets-end-animal-testing-in-2020\/\">federal funding<\/a> of tests on cats and dogs, according to a synopsis provided to <em>Secrets<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Preventing Animal Abuse and Waste Act targets spending by the National Institutes of Health and follows on the heels of successful bids championed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitecoatwaste.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White Coat Waste Project<\/a> and other animal rights groups to curb animal testing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a dog owner, I\u2019m appalled by the inhumane practices that have been conducted using taxpayer dollars. I\u2019m happy to have worked across the aisle with Rep. Mace to choose paws over politics and put a stop to unnecessary government experiments on cats and dogs,\u201d Moskowitz said.<\/p>\n<p>Added Mace, \u201cAs an animal lover, I\u2019ve been disturbed to learn the scale and scope of barbaric and unnecessary dog and cat experiments funded by the National Institutes of Health. Americans across the political spectrum have been horrified to learn their tax dollars are being used to subsidize cruelty to thousands of puppies and kittens in labs every year. The PAAW Act will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bipartisan-push-to-stop-nih-pain-tests-on-cats-and-dogs\/\" title=\"Joint Effort to Cease NIH Experiments on Felines and Canines\">ensure taxpayers\u2019 hard-earned money<\/a> is not wasted on outdated and cruel experiments on pets.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the most recent federal reports, over 62,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>cats and dogs<\/a> are locked in U.S. labs, most of which are National Institutes of Health-funded. Nearly 18,000 of these dogs and cats were subjected to painful experiments, including maximum pain tests with no pain relief, said WCWP.<\/p>\n<p>The group, which has targeted Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Anthony-Fauci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Anthony Fauci<\/a>, the former director of NIH\u2019s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in its campaigns, last month helped to win congressional approval of legislation to stop the Veterans Affairs department from conducting tests on America\u2019s pets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Fauci\u2019s fly infestation tests on beagles to the Kremlin\u2019s kitten crippling experiments, our investigations continue to expose how the NIH wastes millions of tax dollars in the U.S. and abroad to abuse pets in painful, dead-end experiments,\u201d said Justin Goodman, senior vice president at the White Coat Waste Project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe applaud Reps. Mace and Moskowitz for introducing the bipartisan PAAW Act and their outstanding leadership to cut the NIH\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>taxpayer<\/a>-funded cruelty to canines and kittens. When it comes to painful and unnecessary dog and cat testing, wasteful NIH spending is the problem, and the PAAW Act is the solution. Stop the money.
