Bill Johnson (R-OH) <\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure><figcaption>Rep. Puskar)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2452032\/republican-bill-johnson-becomes-32nd-house-member-not-seeking-reelection-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bill Johnson<\/a> (R-OH) announced his departure from the Capitol\u2019s hallowed halls in January in order to take up a $410,000 position as the president of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2710270\/bill-johnson-to-resign-earlier-than-expected-to-become-president-of-youngstown-state-university\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> Youngstown State University <\/a>in Ohio. The pay is more than double that of what he made as a member of Congress. <\/p>\n<p>Although Johnson did not mention the increase in income in his announcement of his new career, he will also receive free housing on the campus and an automobile allowance of $750 per month with mileage reimbursement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkbn.com\/news\/local-news\/youngstown-news\/johnsons-ysu-contract-comes-with-410k-salary\/#:~:text=YOUNGSTOWN%2C%20Ohio%20(WKBN)%20%E2%80%93,makes%20%24174%2C000%20as%20a%20congressman.\">according<\/a> to local outlet WKBN-27.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter much thought and prayerful deliberation, I have accepted the offer to lead Youngstown State University and will not be seeking an 8th term in Congress,\u201d Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepBillJohnson\/status\/1727066717279428779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>wrote on X<\/a> in November. \u201cAs I\u2019ve stated previously, I wasn\u2019t looking for another job, because I love the one I have serving the people of Eastern Ohio in the U.S. House. This was an extremely difficult decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rep. Brian Higgins (D-NY)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure><figcaption>FILE \u2013 Rep. (AP Photo\/Andrew Harnik, Pool, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2434876\/democratic-ny-rep-brian-higgins-says-he-wont-finish-his-term-time-for-change\/\">Brian Higgins <\/a>(D-NY) resigned from his job in the House of Representatives in February, after working in the lower chamber for 19 years, to work as the CEO and president of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2709226\/house-prepares-for-early-2024-shake-up-with-slew-of-special-elections\/\">performing arts center <\/a>in <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/buffalo\">Buffalo<\/a>, New York.<\/p>\n<p>The new gig will reportedly give Higgins at least $305,000 a year for three years, which is a yearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/it-pays-to-leave-congress-democrat-who-resigned-mid-term-is-getting-a-131-000-pay-bump-to-run-a-performing-arts-center\/ar-BB1lpaXO?ocid=hpmsn&#038;cvid=2e4caccddb7c4ac1c4bfb0a9c226f2fc&#038;ei=20\">increase of $131,000<\/a> over his congressional paychecks. But Johnson said the decision was about his role in his community rather than money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t come to Washington to change the world. I came to Washington to change my community,\u201d Higgins <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/politics\/2024\/02\/01\/brian-higgins-reflects-on-time-in-congress--looks-to-next-chapter\">told<\/a> Spectrum News in February. \u201cWe got things done that people were frustrated hadn\u2019t been done earlier. I think that was an inflection point that helped Buffalo realize that, you know, we had great, great potential. I think for Buffalo, the job\u2019s different. Western New York couldn\u2019t afford to have somebody that came down here and forgot about the community. It needed someone who was deeply immersed in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rep. I\u2019m excited to apply my experience and passion to this nonpartisan role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other lawmakers who are leaving Congress for potentially lucrative offers are Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
