Her \u2063connection with the\u2064 Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and controversial\u2064 statements\u2063 have drawn criticism, including\u2064 calls for Casey to revoke\u2064 his\u200d support. Casey may wish they would forget.<\/p>\n<p>Lee, who has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, distributed campaign mailers last month saying she is &#8220;strongly endorsed&#8221; by Casey, mailers obtained by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> show. The mailers could cause problems for Casey, who has attempted to position himself as a pro-Israel moderate in his closely watched reelection campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Casey\u2019s Republican challenger, Dave McCormick, last month called on Casey to rescind his endorsement of Lee over her anti-Israel views and affiliation with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), whose executive director, Nihad Awad, said he was &#8220;happy&#8221; that Hamas attacked Israel. Awad contributed $1,000 to Lee\u2019s campaign on Dec. 29, weeks after his anti-Semitic remarks, the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/squad-member-summer-lee-to-fundraise-for-anti-israel-group-whose-leader-celebrated-hamas-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McCormick joins more than 40 Jewish leaders who in March <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/rabbis-blast-squad-member-summer-lee-over-campaign-donations-from-anti-semites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blasted<\/a> Lee over her planned appearance at an annual fundraiser for CAIR.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have continued to use divisive rhetoric, which, at times, we have perceived as openly antisemitic,&#8221; the Jewish leaders said in a letter to Lee. Among the signatories was the rabbi of Tree of Life, a synagogue in Lee\u2019s district that was the site of a 2018 terrorist attack.<\/p>\n<p>Lee\u2019s primary challenger, Bhavini Patel, joined in their criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Lee has been highly critical of Israel\u2019s response to Hamas\u2019s Oct. 7 attack, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leftists-claimed-capitol-riot-was-worse-than-9-11-victims-families-say-otherwise\/\" title=\"Leftists Claimed Capitol Riot Was Worse Than 9\/11. Victims\u2019 Families Say Otherwise.\">worst terrorist attack<\/a> in the Jewish state\u2019s history. She has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/29\/us\/politics\/democrats-israel-palestine-primaries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Israel\u2019s actions &#8220;look increasingly like a genocide of innocent Gazans.&#8221; She was 1 of 10 Democratic lawmakers to sponsor legislation in October for an &#8220;immediate&#8221; ceasefire in Gaza, without conditions to release American and Israeli hostages.<\/p>\n<p>Lee\u2019s and Casey\u2019s disparate views on the Israel-Hamas war are perhaps best highlighted by their relationship with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel group that is spending heavily against Squad members and other anti-Israel Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Lee was the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IfNotNowOrg\/status\/1773071424422285497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">featured speaker<\/a> last month for the &#8220;Reject AIPAC&#8221; campaign, which calls AIPAC a &#8220;hawkish force in American politics&#8221; that &#8220;supports and amplifies far-right politicians and candidates.&#8221; As part of the &#8220;Reject AIPAC&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rejectaipac.org\/pledge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pledge<\/a>, lawmakers vow to reject endorsements from AIPAC and any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-nyc-mayor-adams-cancels-all-meetings-after-fbi-raids-top-fundraiser\/\" title=\"NYC Mayor Adams Halts Meetings Following FBI Raid on Key Fundraiser.\">political action committees aligned<\/a> with the group.<\/p>\n<p>AIPAC has endorsed Casey and raised more than $124,000 for his campaign last year, according to campaign disclosures.\t<\/p>\n<p>The Casey and Lee campaigns did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first endorsement-related controversy for Casey. Last month, a police union in suburban Philadelphia endorsed McCormick after Casey <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/pennsylvania-police-union-blasts-bob-casey-for-event-with-anti-cop-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeared<\/a> at a campaign event with Indivisible Philadelphia, a group that has called to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-headlines-save-america-rally-in-sarasota-fla\/\" title=\"President Trump headlines Save America rally in Sarasota, Fla.\">defund police departments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pennsylvania&#8217;s Summer Lee, linked to the &#8220;Squad,&#8221; highlights Senator Bob Casey&#8217;s endorsement.
