The review advises cautious\u2063 use of \u2062puberty blockers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-may-soon-face-emergency-appeal-on-trans-surgery-for-kids\/\" title=\"SCOTUS may soon receive urgent appeal on transgender surgery for minors.\">cross-sex \u200dhormones<\/a>, particularly for adolescents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s National Health Service (NHS) will review all transgender medical treatment in the wake of a highly-anticipated review that found such treatment is built on \u201cweak evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The landmark final <a href=\"https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/home\/publications\/final-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> released Tuesday by pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass is the result of a major independent <a href=\"https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/publications\/interim-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">review<\/a> on children and gender identity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/commissioning\/spec-services\/npc-crg\/gender-dysphoria-clinical-programme\/implementing-advice-from-the-cass-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commissioned<\/a> by the NHS in 2020. Cass is a former president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that we have no good evidence on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/restless-anal-syndrome-new-study-finds-horror-side-effect-of-contracting-covid-19\/\" title=\"\u2018Restless Anal Syndrome\u2019: New Study Finds Horror Side-Effect Of Contracting COVID-19\">long-term outcomes<\/a> of interventions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/researcher-debunks-claim-trans-youths-mental-health-improves-with-gender-affirming-care\/\" title=\"Researcher Debunks Claim Trans Youth\u2019s Mental Health Improves With \u2018Gender Affirming\u2019 Care\">manage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-texas-categorizing-transgender-procedures-child-abuse-is-government-overreach-at-its-worst\/\" title=\"Joe Biden: Texas Categorizing Transgender Procedures 'Child Abuse' Is 'Government Overreach at Its Worst'\">gender-related distress<\/a><\/a>,\u201d Cass stated in her report.<\/p>\n<p>The evidence we do have for gender medicine is built on \u201cshaky foundations,\u201d she wrote in an accompanying <a class=\"css-yywogo\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/385\/bmj.q814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">editorial<\/a> published in a medical journal.<\/p>\n<p>Puberty blockers should no longer be prescribed to children except in the context of research due to these powerful drugs\u2019 effects on brain development and bone health, the report says.<\/p>\n<p>Cross-sex hormones \u2014 estrogen and testosterone \u2014 should be prescribed to trans-identifying 16 and 17-year-olds only with an \u201cextremely cautious\u201d approach, and there should be a \u201cclear clinical rationale\u201d for not waiting until the teen is 18, the report says.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting would preserve fertility and manage any other conditions. The report also warns that children who are referred to gender services present with high rates of abuse and neglect including sexual abuse and parental substance abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Cass cautioned that she has also spoken to detransitioners who \u201cdeeply regret\u201d their earlier transitions.<\/p>\n<p>The report also demanded an end to the\u00a0\u201ctoxicity of the debate,\u201d which it called \u201cexceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are few other areas of healthcare where professionals are so afraid to openly discuss their views, where people are vilified on social media, and where name-calling echoes the worst bullying behaviour. This must stop,\u201d Cass wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The NHS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/long-read\/nhs-englands-response-to-the-final-report-of-the-independent-review-of-gender-identity-services-for-children-and-young-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> a statement on the Cass review a day after its publication, detailing the actions it will take in response.<\/p>\n<p>The NHS said it will review all transgender treatment it provides, including to adults, and all new treatment for 16 and 17-year-olds will be paused immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn view of your advice about the need for caution in the initiation of medical interventions for young people under 18 years of age, our letter instructs the adult gender clinics to implement a pause on offering first appointments to young people below their 18th birthday,\u201d the NHS said in its response.<\/p>\n<p>The NHS is taking other measures as well, including establishing at least two new children\u2019s gender services locations and working on clinical guidance explaining that puberty blockers are no longer routinely available.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Tavistock clinic, England\u2019s only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-dialing-back-shocking-policies-on-transgender-kids-and-medical-intervention\/\" title=\"Europe Dialing Back Shocking Policies On Transgender Kids And Medical Intervention\">youth gender identity clinic<\/a>, officially closed its doors after being dogged by controversy for years.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic, the biggest in the world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/politics\/health\/2024\/03\/inside-the-collapse-of-the-tavistock-centre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">referred<\/a> thousands of children for puberty blockers. In its last years, Tavistock began to see an increasing flood of young girls with gender-related distress asking for drugs despite having other mental issues like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and histories of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/indianas-ban-on-transgender-medical-services-for-minors-can-take-effect-court-rules#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at least<\/a> 23 states have already moved to ban medical transgender services for children.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK&#8217;s NHS to reassess all transgender care as per a report citing &#8220;weak evidence.&#8221; Dr. Hilary Cass&#8217;s pivotal review on youth gender identity, commissioned by the NHS, concludes that current treatments lack robust evidence.
