Rep. seeks to pause immigration for 10 years\">stem illegal immigration<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no guarantee that I have that power [to shut down the border] all by myself without legislation,\u201d Biden said in an interview that aired Tuesday night. \u201cSome have suggested I should just go ahead and try it. And if I get shut down by the court, I get shut down by the court. But we\u2019re trying to work that, work through that right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Axios <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/10\/biden-border-executive-order-immigrants-asylum-limit?utm_campaign=editorial&#038;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"reported\">reported<\/a> the next morning that an executive order limiting immigration asylum claims is \u201clikely\u201d by the end of April. The order would use the president\u2019s authority under Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which lets the president block entry to migrants if it would be \u201cdetrimental\u201d to U.S. interests. <\/p>\n<p>But Biden in the interview, and the White House on Wednesday, continued claiming it\u2019s up to Republicans in Congress to secure the border. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo executive action, no matter how aggressive, can deliver the significant policy reforms and additional resources Congress can provide and that Republicans rejected,\u201d a White House spokesperson said. \u201cWe continue to call on [House] Speaker [Mike] Johnson (R-LA) and House Republicans to pass the bipartisan deal to secure the border.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Biden claimed on Univision that former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> \u201cgot on the phone\u201d when he heard about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-immigration-deal-would-allow-nearly-2-million-illegal-border-crossings-documents-show\/\" title=\"Senate immigration deal permits nearly 2M illegal border crossings, reveals documents\">proposed border security bill<\/a> to tell House Republicans, \u201cDon\u2019t be for it, it will benefit Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the president has repeatedly made that claim, House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2837407\/house-gop-leadership-blast-senate-border-deal-waste-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"outlined their own issues\">outlined their own issues<\/a> with the bill at the time and Johnson called it dead on arrival. <\/p>\n<p>The GOP says Biden is solely responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-sees-record-illegal-border-crossings\/\" title=\"U.S. Sees Record Illegal Border Crossings\">record illegal border crossings<\/a> since he took office, pointing to the 90-plus executive actions he has taken to undo Trump\u2019s border policies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An administration official stated to the Washington Examiner that no final decisions have been made regarding a potential immigration-focused executive order by the end of the month.
