In March 2023, James Brenner was charged with Rounds\u2019 murder and agreed to tell police where the body was as part of a plea deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn April 9, 2024, skeletal remains presumed to belong to Dylan Rounds were recovered in the remote western Box Elder County area of Lucin,\u201d the Box Elder County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/people\/Box-Elder-County-Sheriffs-Office\/100069247537764\/?locale=fr_FR&#038;paipv=0&#038;eav=AfYYbTyirhqFGyQDGp1dWy8CiMi5VWmwtULb7Dh1A9OOx90NRwvfGqm5k2rH16VLPWk&#038;_rdr\">said<\/a> on Facebook. \u201cThe FBI assisted the Box Elder County Sheriff\u2019s Office by processing the area for evidence and recovering the remains. The remains are in the possession of the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for confirmation of identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brenner was squatting on land next to Rounds\u2019 trailer when he allegedly murdered the teen, East Idaho News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastidahonews.com\/2023\/06\/james-brenner-man-accused-of-killing-dylan-rounds-appears-in-utah-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> last year, and was charged with one count of aggravated murder and one count of abuse or desecration of a human body. Brenner had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2-fla-deputies-ambushed-during-routine-stop\/\" title=\"2 Fla. deputies ambushed during routine stop\">violent criminal history<\/a> and had been arrested on outstanding warrants in June 2022 before authorities announced that he was a suspect in Rounds\u2019 disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>During a hearing last year, Brenner appeared with a limp, prompting Rounds\u2019 parents to accuse him of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-kills-utah-man-who-allegedly-posted-online-threats-targeting-joe-biden-alvin-bragg\/\" title=\"FBI kills Utah man for online threats against Joe Biden, Alvin Bragg.\">attention-seeking behavior<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s despicable. His whole act of limping around is a complete act,\u201d Rounds\u2019 mother, Candice Cooley, told East Idaho News at the time. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s so we think he\u2019s going to die or make him some sort of deal but he wants people to feel sorry for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looks for attention to have people feel sorry for him. That\u2019s all. I think it\u2019s an act,\u201d Rounds\u2019 father, Justin, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>While the sheriff\u2019s office announced the discovery of a body believed to be Rounds, it did not elaborate further due to legal proceedings against Brenner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts go out to the family of Dylan Rounds,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/09\/us-news\/utah-teen-dylan-rounds-presumed-skeletal-remains-found-as-james-brenner-faces-murder-charge\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe offer our sincerest condolences for the loss of their family member. We understand that the pain of their loss is immeasurable, and we want to express our deepest sympathies to them. The issue prompted Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fetterman-blasts-squatters-trying-to-steal-peoples-homes-squatters-have-no-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemn the laws<\/a> protecting \u201csquatter\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSquatters have no rights,\u201d Fetterman <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/06\/us-news\/fetterman-blasts-squatters-violent-crime-i-am-not-woke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the New York Post. \u201cHow can you even pretend that this is anything other than you\u2019re just breaking the law?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s wild that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home and suddenly they have rights,\u201d he added. \u201cThis is crazy.
