They have until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/09\/congress-fisa-surveillance-deadline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 19<\/a> to reauthorize Section 702 before it sunsets.<\/p>\n<p>While leaders have pressed ahead, conservative and far-left lawmakers sounded off about privacy concerns. One particular reform sought by some Republicans is a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/4584117-fisa-spy-powers-rules-warrant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warrant requirement<\/a> for government officials to access collected information for law enforcement purposes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m with President Trump. FISA has been significantly abused to illegally spy and trample on the privacy rights of millions of Americans,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laurenboebert\/status\/1778063125033390549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). \u201cTime to kill it and get back to the way our Constitution intended things to be! Get a warrant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last-minute alterations to the FISA Section 702 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-gop-sen-capito-talk-infrastructure-deal\/\" title=\"Biden, GOP Sen. Capito Talk Infrastructure Deal\">reauthorization bill<\/a> could jeopardize its chances of advancing through both the House, which is held by Republicans, and the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Preventing a lapse \u201cwill take bipartisan cooperation and swift action,\u201d Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/majority-leader-schumer-floor-remarks-on-the-senate-agenda-for-this-work-period-and-calling-on-the-house-to-pass-the-bipartisan-national-security-supplemental\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in remarks this week.
