Mayorkas, responding to Rep. Ashley \u200bHinson (R-IA), acknowledged the crisis and discussed efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/greg-abbott-to-build-military-base-in-eagle-pass\/\" title=\"Greg Abbott plans military base in Eagle Pass\">enhance\u2063 border\u2064 security<\/a>. This marks a significant shift\u2062 from his \u200bprevious responses on the issue.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alejandro-mayorkas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a> relented for the first time while under oath before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a> that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/border\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"southern border\">southern border<\/a> was in a state of \u201ccrisis,\u201d an admission that shocked even Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) asked Mayorkas about the border during Mayorkas\u2019s first appearance on Capitol Hill since being impeached in February and appeared stunned by his response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Secretary, you dance around calling the crisis at our southern border not only a humanitarian crisis but a crisis,\u201d Hinson said during a House Appropriations Committee hearing Wednesday. \u201cIf you do not see it as that, why are you deploying our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/air-marshals-revolt-against-biden-plan-to-leave-flights-unprotected\/\" title=\"Air Marshals Revolt Against Biden Plan to Leave Flights Unprotected\">federal air marshals<\/a> or FAMS to the southern border?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongresswoman, I do understand the challenges at the border. I certainly don\u2019t dance around them, as a matter of fact,\u201d Mayorkas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould you call it at a crisis at the southern border?\u201d Hinson interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I would,\u201d Mayorkas said. \u201cAnd as a matter of fact, I work every single day with the men and women in the Department of Homeland Security to only strengthen the security of our southern border, as well as the northern border.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>JUST IN: For the first time in 38 months since Biden took office, DHS Sec. And we\u2019re doing a tremendous amount within that broken system.
