But for NPR, which purports to consider all things, it\u2019s devastating both for its journalism and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gab-ceo-i-had-very-close-relationships-with-facebook-and-twitteri-got-to-see-the-evils-of-their-business-model-for-many-yearswhat-were-s\/\" title=\"GAB CEO: \u201cI had very close relationships with Facebook and Twitter\u2026\u201dI got to see the evils of their business model for many years\u201d\u2026\u201dWhat we\u2019re seeing in America right now is the rise of Communism\u201d[VIDEO]\">business model<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berliner pointed to NPR\u2019s commitment to intersectionality and explained that so-called diversity \u2014 specifically of skin color and sexual identities \u2014 became its \u201cNorth Star.\u201d Overall, \u201c[r]ace and identity,\u201d Berliner said, \u201cbecame paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berliner explained that NPR reporters were required to ask every person they interviewed about their sex, skin color, and ethnicity, and then input that information into \u201ca centralized tracking system.\u201d He added that NPR\u2019s burgeoning \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion\u201d staff organized meetings intended to spark conversations about race, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kentucky-county-seeks-to-eliminate-curricular-violence-with-year-long-teacher-training-program-to-end-racism-in-math\/\" title=\"Kentucky County Seeks To \u2018Eliminate Curricular Violence\u2019 With Year-Long Teacher Training Program To End Racism In Math\">monthly sessions<\/a> for \u201cmen of color\u201d and \u201cwomen of color\u201d that included \u201cnonbinary people.\u201d Journalists also underwent \u201cunconscious bias training sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/05\/is-npr-trying-to-start-a-race-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Is NPR Trying To Start A Race War?<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f58c39a33ac349cb2bbb17e68beb3f99 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f58c39a33ac349cb2bbb17e68beb3f99\"><\/div>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t just race, and it wasn\u2019t just a top-down effort to become more \u201cinclusive.\u201d Berliner explained that this identity-obsessed North Star began to dictate the terms reporters used in stories, with the government-funded outlet\u2019s editorial guidance created with pro-trans activists. Berliner wrote: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>There\u2019s an unspoken consensus about the stories we should pursue and how they should be framed. It\u2019s frictionless \u2014 one story after another about instances of supposed racism, transphobia, signs of the climate apocalypse, Israel doing something bad, and the dire threat of Republican policies. It\u2019s almost like an assembly line.<\/p>\n<p>The mindset prevails in choices about language. In a document called NPR Transgender Coverage Guidance\u2014disseminated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/we-lost-americas-trust-npr-veteran-says-network-has-lost-its-way\/\" title=\"NPR Veteran Voices Concern Over Network's Trust Decline\">news management\u2014<\/a>we\u2019re asked to avoid the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ohio-education-board-vp-claims-biological-sex-isnt-a-scientific-fact\/\" title=\"Ohio Education Board VP Claims Biological Sex Isn't a \"Scientific Fact\"\">term biological sex<\/a>. (The editorial guidance was prepared with the help of a former staffer of the National Center for Transgender Equality.)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Berliner, NPR\u2019s audience shifted from a slightly more liberal reader and listenership in 2011 to one that was just 11 percent conservative and 67 percent liberal by 2023. And as for NPR\u2019s D.C. newsroom? Berliner said he dug up voter registrations in 2021 and \u201cfound 87 registered Democrats working in editorial positions and zero Republicans. None.\u201d His colleagues didn\u2019t seem to care.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike many unfortunate things, the rise of advocacy took off with Donald Trump. As in many newsrooms, his election in 2016 was greeted at NPR with a mixture of disbelief, anger, and despair. (Just to note, I eagerly voted against Trump twice but felt we were obliged to cover him fairly.),\u201d Berliner wrote. \u201cBut what began as tough, straightforward coverage of a belligerent, truth-impaired president veered toward efforts to damage or topple Trump\u2019s presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berliner highlighted three primary stories where NPR\u2019s coverage \u201cfaltered,\u201d including the origins of the novel coronavirus, the Hunter Biden laptop, and the Trump-Russia hoax \u2014 which was propelled by Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/adam-schiffs-censure-is-the-bare-minimum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adam Schiff<\/a>, D-Calif., who was interviewed by hosts at the public media organization at least 25 times. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2e93657d10062b11d000f734249c3eb2 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2e93657d10062b11d000f734249c3eb2\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDuring many of those conversations, Schiff alluded to purported evidence of collusion. The Schiff talking points became the drumbeat of NPR news reports,\u201d Berliner wrote. \u201cBut when the Mueller report found no credible evidence of collusion, NPR\u2019s coverage was notably sparse. Russiagate quietly faded from our programming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Editors also responded to the Biden laptop by writing off the election-year bombshell, which exposed Joe Biden\u2019s involvement with his son\u2019s potentially criminal business schemes as a \u201cwaste\u201d of \u201ctime on stories that are not really stories.\u201d Meanwhile, NPR dismissed as racist theories surrounding the coronavirus as a lab leak, which deviated from the official narrative peddled by Anthony Fauci and former NIH head Francis Collins. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cReporting on a possible lab leak,\u201d Berliner said, \u201cbecame radioactive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NPR did not respond to The Federalist\u2019s multiple requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Berliner said he does not think defunding National Public Radio is the answer \u2014 because he sees a need for a good-faith \u201cpublic\u201d news organization.
