Biden highlighted his efforts to secure support from Latino voters. Polls show a close race between Trump and Biden\u200d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/series-of-recent-national-polls-released-its-big-for-trump-but-biden-wont-like-it\/\" title=\"New Polls Favor Trump, Biden Displeased\">key \u2064battleground states<\/a>. Biden also addressed immigration and border security issues raised during the interview.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> slammed former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> as a primary threat to freedom and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>democracy<\/a> in an interview with Univision, the Spanish language network, that will air Tuesday evening. <\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s comments against Trump come as he has been working to shore up support with Latino voters ahead of the Nov. 5 election after recent polling has shown the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-up-4-points-on-generic-ballot-up-9-among-age-50-demo\/\" title=\"GOP Up 4 Points on Generic Ballot - Up 9 Among Age 50+ Demo\">crucial voting bloc<\/a> may be more amenable to voting for the GOP. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump talk uses phrases like we\u2019re going to eviscerate the Constitution. He\u2019s going to be a dictator on day one,\u201d Biden told host Enrique Acevedo. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The president then excoriated Trump over his actions as the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot occurred after he lost the 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that he would sit in the office \u2014 and I\u2019ll show you before you leave \u2014 off the Oval Office and watched for hours the attack on the Capitol and the destruction and the mayhem and the people who were killed,\u201d Biden continued. \u201cThe police officers who died and called them political heroes, call them patriots. And saying that if he gets elected, he\u2019s going to free them all because they\u2019re being held illegally.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Polling last month from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2930876\/hispanic-voters-trending-toward-gop-key-battleground-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>American Principles Project<\/a> of Hispanic voters showed Trump and Biden tied at 46% in a hypothetical matchup in Arizona,\u00a0a key swing state. In Nevada, another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-state-republicans-lead-democrats-by-six-points-on-generic-ballot\/\" title=\"Poll: State Republicans Lead Democrats by Six Points on Generic Ballot\">crucial battleground state<\/a>, showed Biden leading by just two percentage points, 42% to 40%.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en-us\/latino-americans-arent-favorable-trump-or-biden-feel-democratic-party-better-represents-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Axios-Ipsos Latino Poll<\/a> with Noticias Telemundo released this week showed a plurality of Latinos hold an unfavorable view of Biden, 41% found him favorable while 47% found him unfavorable. Trump is seen even less favorable than Biden with 32% finding him favorable and 56% finding him unfavorable. <\/p>\n<p>Acevedo asked Biden how he aimed to solve the border crisis, a top concern for many voters in the U.S. The Axios-Ipsos poll showed crime and gun violence, at 34%, and immigration, at 28%, are among the second-tier concerns for Latino voters.\u00a0Republican leaders, including Trump, have criticized Biden over his inability to stem the flow of migrants entering the U.S. illegally. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first piece of legislation I introduced as president was related to the border. The first one,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI wanted to make sure everything from Dreamers had a path to citizenship, all the way to providing for enough border security people to orderly handle the border, to allow legal immigration and prevent illegal immigration.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Biden then blasted Trump for pressuring Republican leaders on Capitol Hill to scuttle a bipartisan border deal back in February. Trump opposed the deal because it would give Biden a political victory in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamala-who-has-not-ruled-out-packing-supreme-court-tells-conference-an-independent-judiciary-is-critical-to-a-healthy-democracy\/\" title=\"Kamala, Who Has Not Ruled Out Packing Supreme Court, Tells Conference: \u2018An Independent Judiciary Is Critical To A Healthy Democracy\u2019\">presidential election year<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened was when Trump found out that I liked it and I supported it, and I\u2019d get, quote, credit for it, he got on the phone, not a joke, checked with the Republicans and called them and said, don\u2019t be for it, will benefit Biden,\u201d Biden added. \u201cWhen the hell would you vote on a major piece of legislation based on whether you benefit somebody that\u2019s in politics? It\u2019s either good or it\u2019s bad. It was a good piece of legislation, and I\u2019m not giving up on it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Democrats previously criticized Univision for an interview the network conducted with Trump last year they viewed as a softball interview. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2950334\/trump-biden-whitmer-michigan-over-border-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>attacked<\/a> Biden\u2019s border policies during a campaign stop last week in Michigan, another battleground state that will help determine the election. The Biden administration, declared Trump, was \u201cwrecking our civilization\u201d and \u201cdestroying our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Biden claimed his team was determining whether he could issue an executive action on closing the southern border. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no guarantee that I have that power all by myself without legislation,\u201d Biden claimed. \u201cAnd some have suggested I should just go ahead and try it. And if I get shut down by the court, I get shut down by the court. But we\u2019re trying to work that, work through that right now.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Biden also criticized Israeli Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> in the wake of the seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2951488\/derrick-van-orden-blames-hamas-for-deaths-of-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Central Kitchen<\/a> aid workers killed by Israel Defense Forces. I don\u2019t agree with his approach,\u201d Biden said of Netanyahu. \u201cI think it\u2019s outrageous that those four, three vehicles were hit by drones and taken out on a highway where it wasn\u2019t like it was along the shore, it wasn\u2019t like there was a convoy moving there.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Biden then called for a temporary ceasefire between the two opposing forces as more Democrats, moderates and progressives, have pushed for an end to the fighting that began on Oct. 7 when Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks total access to all food and medicine going into the country,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI\u2019ve spoken with everyone from the Saudis to the Jordanians to the Egyptians. They\u2019re prepared to move in. They\u2019re prepared to move this food in. And I think there\u2019s no excuse to not provide for the medical and the food needs of those people.
