Kyrsten Sinema&#8217;s seat.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner\u2019s<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/author\/tiana-lowe-doescher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Tiana Lowe Doescher<\/a> reacted to the decision the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Arizona<\/a> Supreme Court made Tuesday regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>abortion<\/a> access, arguing that it provides a difficult challenge for state Republicans to navigate ahead of the November elections.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/2959358\/arizona-supreme-court-upholds-civil-war-era-abortion-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>upheld a law from 1864 that bans abortions within the state<\/a>, with the only exception being in cases when the mother faces immediate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-lifts-restriction-on-remote-prescriptions-of-abortion-drugs\/\" title=\"FDA Lifts Restriction on Remote Prescriptions of Abortion Drugs\">life-threatening conditions<\/a>. Doescher noted how former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is leading President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> on various matters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/elections\/trump-biden-poll-swing-states-ad594acb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>across multiple battleground states<\/a>, including Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one area where Biden and Harris have maintained their lead is abortion,\u201d Doescher said on Fox News\u2019s <em>Your World with Neil Cavuto<\/em>. \u201cAnd Arizona is not a very red electorate anymore. It has become increasingly purple where some like Florida has become increasingly red.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doescher noted how two years ago, the Arizona state legislature passed a prohibition on abortion after 15 weeks, and how this was in \u201cthe sweet spot\u201d for Arizona voters. The 1864 law, meanwhile, could be hard to sell to voters ahead of the November elections, with Doescher pointing to how even most Republicans support exceptions to abortion for rape and incest.<\/p>\n<p>The presidential election is not the only election that this 1864 law could affect, as Arizona is also holding a Senate race for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema\u2019s (I-AZ) seat, as she is not seeking reelection. Both the Republican and Democratic candidates in this race, former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), respectively, have spoken out against this law, with Lake asking Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) to come up with an \u201cimmediate common sense solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Today\u2019s ruling is devastating for Arizona women and their families. Wade\">15-week abortion ban<\/a>,\u201d Doscher said. \u201cIn other states, it might not matter so much, again, where you have a big margin of support with highly competent governors like Mike DeWine or Ron DeSantis, sure.
