U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced \u200cthe substantial \u200dfunding to enhance American chip\u200d manufacturing capabilities.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Biden administration is giving nearly $7 billion to a project run by a former top executive of the failed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-climate-agenda-wont-replace-jobs-it-seeks-to-kill-separate-ap-wapo-fact-checks-suggest\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda Won\u2019t Replace Jobs It Seeks To Kill, Separate AP, WaPo Fact-Checks Suggest\">green energy<\/a> company Solyndra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brian Harrison, the former CEO of Solyndra, is now president of an Arizona subsidiary of the Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/biden-admin-gives-6-6-billion-to-project-run-by-ex-solyndra-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Harrison is heading a project to build a semiconductor manufacturing plant in the United States, part of a push by the U.S. to on-shore production of valuable advanced semiconductors that are in large part produced in Taiwan, which is under threat from Chinese expansion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced on Monday that the federal government has granted Harrison\u2019s project $6.6 billion as part of the on-shoring process. She said the partnership with TSMC will bring \u201cthe manufacturing of the world\u2019s most advanced chips to American soil,\u201d according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/04\/08\/tsmc-set-to-receive-up-to-6point6-billion-in-funding-for-arizona-plants-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harrison is previously known for his work with Solyndra, a now-defunct solar energy company that accepted $500 million in loans of taxpayer money from the Obama administration. The administration greenlit the loans under a 2009 stimulus program. At the time, the administration celebrated Solyndra as a key player in the United States\u2019 future transition toward green energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Solyndra announced bankruptcy in 2011 and never paid back the loans it received from taxpayers. Harrison oversaw the company at the time, and while Harrison and other executives were probed by federal investigators over the company\u2019s failing, neither Harrison nor any other Solyndra executive was charged over the ordeal, according to the Free Beacon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The $6.6 billion grant funds part of the construction of three semiconductor plants estimated to cost a total of $65 billion. The grant includes tens of millions of dollars to train local workers in semiconductor manufacturing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The taxpayer funds were designated toward semiconductor creation under the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act. The act was passed in 2022 and designated $53 billion in taxpayer money to build and protect the United States\u2019 ability to manufacture the semiconductors, which are commonly used by the U.S. military in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-forges-closer-military-ties-to-russia\/\" title=\"China Forges Closer Military Ties to Russia\">advanced weapons systems<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President Joe Biden celebrated the investment into Harrison\u2019s project in a statement, according to CNBC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThanks to this investment, TSMC will also build a third <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/samsung-to-build-17-billion-chip-factory-in-texas-marking-largest-ever-foreign-investment-into-the-state\/\" title=\"Samsung To Build  Billion Chip Factory In Texas, Marking Largest Ever Foreign Investment Into The State\">chip factory<\/a> in Phoenix, increasing its total investment in Arizona to $65 million and creating over 25,000 direct construction and manufacturing jobs, along with thousands of indirect jobs,\u201d Biden said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration is providing almost $7 billion to a project led by Brian Harrison, former CEO of Solyndra.
