Version: 4.0.47--><p>The\u2063 GOP-led House has \u2063delayed \u2063sending impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Democrat-controlled Senate next week.\u2063 The\u200b handoff, initially planned for Wednesday, will \u200bnow\u200b take place at least by Monday. \u2063Speaker\u200d Mike Johnson&#8217;s office \u200dstated that \u200dthe delay is to ensure the Senate has \u2064ample time to fulfill its constitutional \u200dduty in holding\u2062 an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-calls-for-trump-to-be-immediately-removed-from-office-by-impeachment-or-25th-amendment\/\" title=\"Schumer Calls for Trump to be \u201cImmediately Removed From Office\u201d by Impeachment or 25th Amendment\">impeachment trial<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The GOP-led House has opted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-targets-millions-of-americans-with-vaccine-threat-but-not-illegal-immigrants\/\" title=\"Biden Targets Millions Of Americans With Vaccine Threat, But Not Illegal Immigrants\">delay sending<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Articles-of-Impeachment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impeachment articles<\/a> against Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/alejandro-mayorkas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a> over his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-shatters-record-with-historic-number-of-illegal-aliens-encountered-in-december\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handling of<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/border-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">border crisis<\/a> to the Democrat-controlled Senate next week.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of conducting the handoff on Wednesday \u2014 which was part of a plan announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-picks-date-to-present-mayorkas-impeachment-articles-to-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two weeks ago<\/a> \u2014 the lower chamber will now wait until at least Monday, according to the office of Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/mike-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure the Senate has adequate time to perform its constitutional duty, the House will transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate next week,\u201d Johnson spokesperson Taylor Haulsee said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Olivia_Beavers\/status\/1777788462206246958\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThere is no reason whatsoever for the Senate to abdicate its responsibility to hold an impeachment trial.<\/p>\n<p>House lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-impeaches-mayorkas-in-second-attempt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> two impeachment articles in February that accuse Mayorkas of \u201cwillfully and systemically\u201d refusing to comply with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-dhs-chief-far-left-biden-immigration-bill-signals-to-traffickers-its-okay-to-come-extreme-incentive-for-future-illegal-immigration\/\" title=\"Ex-DHS Chief: \u2018Far-Left\u2019 Biden Immigration Bill Signals To Traffickers \u2018It\u2019s Okay To Come,\u2019 \u2018Extreme Incentive\u2019 For Future Illegal Immigration\">federal immigration laws<\/a>, and the other alleged he \u201cbreached the public trust\u201d with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">false statements<\/a> and obstructing lawful oversight of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/p>\n<p>Although roughly two months have passed, Senate Republicans asked Johnson to delay sending over the articles until at least Monday to give them more time, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1777786321311859008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. There had been reporting that said Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/09\/senate-democrats-dismiss-mayorkas-impeachment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expected<\/a> to dismiss the impeachment charges before a full trial could take place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to try to resolve this issue as quickly as impossible. Impeachment should never be used to settle policy disagreements,\u201d Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1777767286151012829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> reporters on Wednesday. His office previously said senators would be sworn in as jurors a day after the House impeachment managers present their articles to the Senate and\u00a0Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray (D-WA) would preside.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/about\/powers-procedures\/impeachment.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-thirds vote<\/a> is required for a conviction in the Democrat-led Senate, which would lead to removal from office. But the articles may not make it far with a motion to table, which, according to the Senate glossary, is \u201ca proposal to set aside any pending question.\u00a0Used to dispose of a question the Chamber does not want to consider further. Agreement to the motion is equivalent to defeating the question tabled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1708259679271000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1Ee_W9CYO1qJR3zhHtzotv\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Democrats have criticized the impeachment proceedings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-committee-picks-date-to-consider-mayorkas-impeachment-articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as a \u201cpolitical stunt<\/a>,\u201d while Mayorkas <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeKhalilTV\/status\/1752349544925294720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed back against<\/a> what he called \u201cfalse accusations\u201d levied against him. A DHS spokesperson reacted to the successful House impeachment vote by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JacquiHeinrich\/status\/1757562709107761523\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a>, \u201cHouse Republicans will be remembered by history for trampling on the Constitution for political gain rather than working to solve the serious challenges at our border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There has been talk among Senate Republicans, too, that suggested not every GOP member would oppose a motion to dismiss. Sen.
