The study\u2063 highlights concerns about\u200d potential cancer risks \u200cassociated with calcium formations in the testicles.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Boys who take puberty blockers may suffer atrophied testes and fertility issues, a new study by Mayo Clinic researchers has found, causing the authors to cast doubt about the common claim that puberty blockers are \u201creversible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2024.03.23.586441v1.full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>, authored by 11 researchers at Mayo Clinic\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/patient-visitor-guide\/minnesota\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest<\/a> campus south of Minneapolis, looked at the effects of puberty blockers on testicular cells and function.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe provide unprecedented histological evidence revealing detrimental pediatric testicular sex gland responses to [puberty blockers],\u201d the study reads.<\/p>\n<p>Mild to severe sex gland atrophy is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/teachers-union-president-claims-union-has-been-trying-to-reopen-since-april-heres-what-actually-happened\/\" title=\"Teachers Union President Claims Union Has Been \u2018Trying to Reopen\u2019 Since April. Here\u2019s What Actually Happened.\">negative effects<\/a> the researchers found.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of one 12-year-old boy who was treated with puberty blockers for 14 months, nearly 60% of his sex glands became \u201cfully atrophied,\u201d and small clusters of calcium formed in his testicles, according to the study.<\/p>\n<p>These calcium clusters are linked to cancer, several studies have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/testicular-cancer-care\/expert-answers\/microlithiasis\/faq-20058074#:~:text=Testicular%20microlithiasis%20(tes%2DTIK%2D,testicular%20microlithiasis%20and%20testicular%20cancer.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a>, although it is not clear whether they are a risk factor by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Potentially permanent effects on fertility were another concern for boys who were treated with puberty blockers, the researchers found.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of a 14-year-old boy who had been puberty blockers for more than four years, more than 90 % of his cells that were supposed to eventually produce sperm were developmentally arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The findings \u201craise a potential concern regarding the complete \u2018reversibility\u2019 and reproductive fitness\u201d of the sperm germ cells, the researchers said.<\/p>\n<p>The study examined 87 boys, 16 of whom were gender dysphoric boys between ages 10 and 16. Nine of those boys were already on puberty blockers, although all of the boys would eventually be put on the drugs. The boys began identifying as transgender girls between ages 2 and 15.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers noted that there are no long-term studies on puberty blockers for gender dysphoric children, meaning many of the drugs\u2019 effects such as impacts on fertility are still unknown.<\/p>\n<p>The study has not yet been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-who-resisted-reopening-schools-took-thousands-from-teacher-unions\/\" title=\"Democrats Who Resisted Reopening Schools Took Thousands From Teacher Unions\">peer-reviewed<\/a> but was published on BioRxiv, a website hosted by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory that sees two-thirds of its papers later published in peer-reviewed journals.<\/p>\n<p>Mayo Clinic\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/gender-dysphoria\/in-depth\/pubertal-blockers\/art-20459075\">website page<\/a> on puberty blockers does not yet warn about the extent of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/finland-limits-moderna-vaccine-after-reports-of-side-effects-in-younger-males\/\" title=\"Finland limits Moderna vaccine after reports of side effects in younger males\">side effects found<\/a> in the study.
